The Smashing Pumpkins -vs- Guns N Roses

You must be a 12 year old girl to like any of the "artists" or movies you mentioned. There's a difference between agreeing with a majority of little girls and a majority of respected musicians and music critics.

I suggest you just quit arguing and go turn the lights off in your room, crawl under the sheets, and weep while you listen to your emo music.

You've said some of the dumbest crap I've ever read. Only your opinion is correct, right?

"There's a difference between agreeing with a majority of little girls and a majority of respected musicians and music critics."

What facts are you basing this on? In your opinion, these people are respected and these respected people share your view.

Then you attack me for turning your stupid argument around on you. If I'm a 12 year old girl, then you're admitting to being dumber than a 12 year old girl. In your opinion at least... but I guess that also makes it fact according to you.

Sorry for turning into a dick but you're criticizing people for having their own opinion while using what other people think to try and prove a point(in your opinion).

Mariah Carey and Celine Dion have both sold 200 million albums while Aerosmith has sold 150 million. Are you going to say you have to be a woman or gay? I don't think that's the case. I'd never listen to MC or CD but I like Aerosmith.

Barbra Streisand sold 140 million albums to Bruce Springsteen's 120 million.

Good for Guns N Roses having more album sales and more fans than the Smashing Pumpkins. As previously pointed out, that means nothing to me because I can form my opinion. I don't like Twilight or Nickelback but plenty of other people do. All I'm saying is, you decided to use popularity/fan base as your argument and then you turn it around and say "Well, I was talking about respected people" or you insult people by saying "That's for 12 year old girls and you like emo music". Terrible at debating... for real.

in all honestly, yeah, I take Smashing Pumpkins. I'm 30, I'm much more of a '90s kid as far as music goes. In fact, I can't stand the overwhelming majority of '80s music, especially hair bands. GnR would be the closest to an exception because I like "November Rain", "Welcome to the Jungle" and Paradise City are songs I can listen to.

That said, I can't find a bad song on Mellon Collie and would just about take the entire double album over every GnR song save November Rain. Both lead vocalists are douches, as is Slash so I just consider that a push. Eddie Vedder is the lead singer of my favorite band of all time and we are miles apart in a lot of our political views, so I just throw all that out the window and simply look at the music.

Smashing Pumpkins is just flat out more enjoyable for me to listen to. Not a fair argument honestly, as this is more about taste in music than which artist. A Billy C thread making any sense though would stop time.

I agree with everything. Except I really don't dislike 80's bands or anything. But spot on for the most part as to the way I feel.

I just prefer Smashing Pumpkins over Guns N Roses.

I don't mind Guns N Roses. I even listen to Motley Crue, Aerosmith etc. It's just a preference and it's screwed up when someone tries say your taste in bands is wrong.

Are you going to tell me what I eat is wrong too(and it's not even close)? :p

What can I say... I don't want pickles or onions on my cheeseburger. Maybe that's just crazy talk!

Billy Corgan (sp) and axel rose had very similar personalities. both were complete A-hole for much of their careers when it came to their bandmates. I think Corgan came to his senses eventually.

smashing pumpkins no doubt though.

Jesus I didn't know you were a fanboy of SP. How many pairs of whitey tighties do you have with Billy's face on it? Posters in your room? I mean damn I like Guns and all, but I'm not going to write 4 different half page long posts about how much I love and adore them. Keep that weird stuff to yourself buddy.

I like how all of the Guns N Roses fans are saying it's not even close but it seems to be pretty close as far as fan voting in this thread goes :p

I would take Mellon Collie and The Infant Sadness over everything Guns N Roses has done. I would also take baldie over dreadhead. And Slash should have his teeth kicked in haha. I just can't stand Slash at all.

Like him or not Slash is one of the greastest guitar soloists there has ever been.

I waited in line at Cat's on Kingston Pike for GNR blue/red cd. I've never bought a SP song or cd, though they are good.

I really like both bands. I'll base my choice on if I had to listen to either band everyday for the rest of my life. With that being said, it's Pumpkins.

I like Appetite and UYI 1&2 better than anything the Pumpkins did but Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream are more "listenable".
Does that make sense?

Not sure how these two can be compared considering they're two completely different bands.

Regardless, Pumpkins every day even though I'm not a big fan.

I don't really think it's fair to judge between 2 bands that had 2 completely different sounds. Nevertheless, I didn't really ever care for Smashing Pumpkins. And G n R is so overplayed it's annoying.
