The SNL Thread.......

The recent Jim Carrey episode was horrible. Watch when he hosted it back in the 90s. When you can't get a decent episode of Jim Carrey, it's time to shut down and retool. New writers and actors. Get rid of the guy from the Nickelodeon show.

Kenan Thompson?

What's up with that? What's up with that?

AGREED!!!!

Kenan sucks. He doesn't have any of the ability of the other members. Every character he does has the same voice. Near same personality.

Agreed on the writers as well. Watched a VH1 thing on SNL from the 90s and they said they allowed the actors to have a lot more input into the skits than they do now. Now the writers control almost everything. It shows imo. SNL writing has been crap for years. Especially during Bush's presidency. Half of every show was political satire. No creativity whatsoever and boring.

The actors...I don't know. Some of them are ok. Bill Hader. Fred Armison, and Samberg are good imo. But to me the writing sucks so bad that you can't really tell about the others. Too much of it just isn't funny.

Jay Pharaoh seems to be pretty funny, but he hardly gets any feature roles. Hader's "Greg the Alien" character is pretty good. He does a good Buffalo Bill impression too. Should be a recurring character.

Anybody else catch it? So so episode but charles barkley's post game interview translator app and the espn bowl game commercial had me rolling

I DVR'd it, and haven't seen it yet. I rarely watch SNL, but he's my favorite NBA player of all-time (and personality). Were there any others worth watching?

it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Barkley is better off the cuff, not reading cue cards

I was more impressed with Drunk Uncle because it's the first funny thing Bobby Moynahan has done.

The show is actually on a bit of an uptick right now, Jason Sudekis, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen are all money.

New season of Portlandia, too.

Wiig and Hader are hilarious. I don't know who Sudekis is. Don't watch it enough. Is he the guy on Hall Pass?

I really enjoyed the seasons from like 96 to 2002 or something in there. Will Ferrell, Ana Gastayer, Darrell Hammond, and a bunch of that crew. SNL was at its best imo.

My biggest displeasure was with the writing. Around the 03 timeframe it semed like they just went to mostly political satire sketches. Boring and lazy. I liked the original sketches.

Next season just got a whole lot worse if all three depart.

Particularly Samberg. Some of the digital shorts are a miss, but the ones that they hit the mark on make the ones that suck worth it. They've basically been the most memorable thing from the past 5-6 years of SNL. I don't know if the other Lonely Island guys will stay with the show, but without Samberg the shorts would be lacking something.
