The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

It usually is.

I'm actually embarrassed about it and live with shame (no sarcasm), but despite giving up Starbucks and Netflix and my wife working two jobs it's still how I have to survive for now as a chronically ill/disabled person.

And the next time I'm dipping into the wallets of the country's self sufficient makers will be for an operation later this summer to help me keep my left leg. Trying to work 80 hour weeks has caused the vascular reflux to get bad enough I have to have veins stripped.

I have no issue with helping those who truly need it and assisting those who are able bodied and fall on hard times. It shouldn’t be for life though and it shouldn’t place an unjust burden on the rest of society in the process. There’s plenty of government waste that can be cleaned up to take care of those things and lessen the burden on those who actually contribute.

Very few people will ever claim to have an issue with helping those who truly need it and assisting those who are able bodied and fall on hard times.......because that would make them a colossal d**k.
But many of those who claim to have no issue constantly complain about programs designed to help those groups.
We all hate waste. We all hate it when people abuse the system. But there will always be waste and abuse, the best we can do is to take reasonable steps to minimize those things.

If a program helps 9 that need help but allows one to benefit who should not, is it still a worthy program?

I think it depends on how you view his failure to recuse/vote to block subpoenas of text messages that ultimately showed his wife advocating a coup. If you believe (without conclusive proof) that that action was knowing, then corrupt works, IMO.

I think inferring knowledge from the vote is tenuous and circular. I don’t know that he knew what his wife was up to and don’t think it’s productive to accuse him without more proof. It’s just another example of why cable news is stupid.

I don’t know enough Supreme Court history to label him “most corrupt in history” even if that turns out to be true. I think he’s just overtly partisan, just like Alito and Sotomayor.
NYT did some digging into how his wife got her foot in the door with Trump White House. If I remember correctly Trump admired Thomas because he was popular with the MAGA base and invited him to lunch or something at the WH. He unexpectedly showed up with his wife and they began cultivating her access to the administration. It's no smoking gun, but writing that dissent was a bad look.

I'm not judging but is Part 1 of 2 videos. Lawrence Jones mononlogue. Less than 5 minutes. Powerful.

Lawrence Jones: I'm here because of the struggle

May. 15, 2022 - 4:57 - The ‘Cross Country’ host rips the similarities between Secretary Yellen’s recent comments and the Planned Parenthood founder’s racism in his monologue.

Treasury Secretary Yellen's abortion comments spark outrage: 'Disgusting and ridiculous'

May. 15, 2022 - 3:41 - Florida Rep. Byron Donalds reacts to Yellen's statement that overturning Roe v. Wade would be ‘very damaging’ to the economy on 'Lawrence Jones Cross Country.'

6 stupid, incoherent, consecutive posts later...
Leftoids are mad because in their short-sighted, media-fueled, brainwashed animal rage to get rid of orange man they've put themselves under a microscope and it turns out basically nobody likes what they're selling.

Changing topics slightly, I'm glad that medical marijuana laws haven't been struck down by the high court. We've had a day of booming thunderstorms and I haven't had any of the normal phantom pain that comes with the barometric pressure drop.

Holding on to the hope that this option may stay in place.

I am not familiar with the rules/regs on company plans. The individual mandate made me hate Democrats. Badly. Less insurance at much higher prices because Obama and his ilk decided I needed to be paying for other people's insurance who made piss poor decisions. Or pay less (the infamous penalty) and do without.

Makes me have un-Christian thoughts when I think about it too much.

Fining people who can’t afford the top of the line insurance policies that ACA forces everyone to purchase is one of the most disgusting acts I’ve ever seen and hidden under the guise of altruism

Why is the American way anyways to create the most pain for the individual, especially the outliers?

The system was created by the poor policies of FDR. He made it illegal to give raises to employees (the champion of the little man, right?). As a result companies started providing insurance to employees as an incentive (because despite what the left believes, companies compete for people).

That was the beginning of our health insurance system and insurance being tied to your job. Obama doubled down on that by forcing everyone to buy a bad product.

Or we could allow distribution at a more micro level through local charities and community programs instead of the federal government. Given they will know the needs of their own community and who is scamming better than an overarching federal bureaucracy

If charities and community programs were enough, the federal government would never have become involved.
I'm all for people doing what is right and needed on a local level so well that government has absolutely no reason to play any role at all.
If only we could do better on the local level.....
