The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

If any republicans had any foresight, they'd realize they just opened the doors to lose midterms and state elections.
Feels like the parties have mostly self-selected on this issue. I find it really hard to believe that anybody who isn’t already a democrat is going to care more about this than the economy or that anybody who still identifies as republican is going to care more about this than the economy and the attempt to have Pence decide the election.

Do you think it could turn out enough disaffected progressives to vote for more moderate Democrats against republicans?

Fact is: the majority of Americans (both genders) oppose this ruling.

It's as simple as that 🤷‍♂️
Dinka, I know you have trouble at times reading and comprehending what people write at times. If you took my post as being in contradiction to yours, then the below applies.

My statement was that a large portion of women are happy about this decision. What I did NOT say is the majority, so in essence, you seem to agree with me.

I will add that while many polls do show majorities did not support Roe being overturned, there also polls showing this is way down the totem pole of concerns for most people.

When there is a concrete change... people cross lines. Thomas galvanized a bunch of folks with his stupidity. Without a doubt one of the least deserving people to ever don that robe.

Now hold on here. Seriously.

Should “the radicals” in Oregon be allowed to let the people of their State decide Oregon Law?

This is what State’s Rights is all about.

If you are Ok with Mississippi deciding what’s right for Mississippi, but not Ok with Oregon deciding what’s right for Oregon - are you saying you want the Federal Government to decide?
No. I think he's saying that liberals like killing babies, and they'll take this opportunity to expand the practice.

It's 2-1 by women against your wife.
While that may be true, 1/3 of women may be considered by some as a large portion of the set of women. Now if it makes you feel better, substitute a significant minority, less-than-half, more-than-25% or whatever language you desire. If you want call it the tiniest-minority-ever for all I care. In my world, 1/3 is a significant, or large portion of women.

they didn't when it was preserving the status quo. And perhaps in a generation they won't care to reinstate RVW, but in the meantime. They give a ****.

I was in agreement with you when this stuff leaked. Polling suggests it's so far down the list of crap people care about it's a non issue. Maybe if things were better overall it would. But polling, and predictive election results, have barely changed since the leak. Turns out people care far more about their financial well being.

well not worded correctly but todays result makes fed regulation unconstitutional
So no the Feds are done either way

I haven't read the court ruling, but all I've read about it is that it says there is not a constitutional right to an abortion, therefore states can ban it by legislation. That's different than saying the feds can't ban it, in fact it might make it easier for the feds to ban. I'd be interested to know if there is actually language in the ruling saying its unconstitutional for the feds to ban abortion.

It is different now that it official.

I comprehended your statement just fine.

Using an expression like ''a large portion'' on an issue that generally has two avenues is misleading and, frankly, asinine. it's about 65-35 in women. If Tennessee lost a game 65 to 35, would you say something as dense as ''well, we scored a good portion of the points in that game?''

No, you wouldn't... because that would be a very stupid thing to say.
