The Thing Everyone Celebrating SC's Probation Is Missing...

is that Kiffin is now in a no lose situation. If he doesn't do well, he can blame the sanctions. On the other hand, if he wins in spite of the limitations he becomes the new Butch Davis. Either way, he comes out of this alright.

With these sanctions and the likelihood of Texas/Oklahoma moving into his conference I'd say Kiffin's cakewalk to national prominance has officially been wiped out...

Call it childish, petty, ignorant or whatever you may...but that's enough for me...

If he can succeed after the hand that he's just been dealt then I will be the first to admit he's a great coach...

And if he fails and starts making excues for it then who cares? He'll be universally acknowledged as a blowhard that doesn't live up to his promises and always has an excuse....

Regardless of what happens, I think the silver spoon has officially been ripped out of LK's mouth...

It's going to take true coaching ability to not only pull USC out of this hole but to then compete on an annual basis with Texas, Oklahoma and the up and comers like Oregon, UCLA and Cal

if the scholorship drop is really closer to 30 kiffin is completely screwed. he'd have to be an elite coach to keep winning 10 games.

I doubt this very much.

No, I think he is going to lose plenty over the next several years--especially with Texas and Oklahoma coming on board.

Also, what are the chances Kiffin knew something like this was coming before he accepted the job? Surely this didn't come as a surprise...

I'm pretty sure Garrett assured him any punishment wouldn't be severe. Had Kiffin known it was going to be this bad, I'm not so sure he wouldn't have chosen to stay at UT, but we'll obviously never know.

Agree with you there SGM. The USC job as it is today is very different than the USC job that Kiffin accepted a few months back. Of course he had no way of knowing what would unfold with Texas and Oklahoma about to come on board either. Kiffin's career would have been better served staying in Knoxville than to walk into the mess he is now in.

I'm sorry.

Congratulations to monte's kid on the impending sanctions.

According to some unbiased opinions, reduced scholarships and 2 year bowl bans are good for prominent college football programs.

With hard work, maybe monte's kid can add a few major coaching blunders in big games against UCLA or Stanford, allow Washington and Arizona State to beat sc by 50, and ONLY lose to Oregon by 10 to further solidify his coaching career.

In other words, Kiffin just got a big dose of "be careful what you ask for" :eek:lol:

Might be good for x to live high on the hog while the game passes him by. I get it. Lots of time to spend with those "what might have beens."

I just spent the last few months being told I was "an idiot" and "delusional" for even entertaining the idea that the NCAA might actually impose any kind of penalty in this case....so you're going to have to excuse me if I don't really give a damn about whether or not Kiffin's future looks so bright, he's gotta wear shades. If it's alright, I think I'll just point and laugh for a minute or two.

Shula didn't have the benefit of the doubt at Bama. I doubt that Kiffin will at USC. If he doesn't produce, the Trogans will upgrade the position first chance they get and not think twice about it.

I'm not sure any coach would consider this a no lose situation. Loss of scholarships and no bowls makes for a hard sell recruiting and that's their bread and butter.

If you are implying that this means he has more of a chance at staying the coach there this way then that's even better isn't it? How many years is it going to take to recover from this?

If through all this plus the possibility of Tex/Ok coming in he manages to put up a championship some odd years down the road then I think he would have earned it the hard way and deserves a few accolades. I think more likely is he'll struggle for years on end and USC will not see the top during his time there.

NOPE just let USC lose to UCLA and see what will happen. That is the death of any USC coach. They hate UCLA as much as Bama hates Auburn

Carroll did a couple years ago and missed the title game. He survived it.

i'm not sure slick rick will take advantage. if UCLA isn't a top-10 team by 2013 their entire athletic department shoudl be fired.
