The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Anybody else notice these Hong Kong protestors flying the US flag and singing our anthem, while they face the prospect of getting run over by tanks? Pretty sad when non-citizens understand what our flag stands for better than our own.

Or maybe they misunderstand what the flag stands for.

Those are NGO operatives. Don't make too much out of those protesters.

And to be honest, I really don't think most Americans give a damn about what this country (should) stand for. Hint: It ain't about a flag...

I honestly can't tell by this post whether you support Kap or not. It's a rebel flag. Kap is a rebel. Hong Kong is rebelling.
Kap is an anarchist rebelling against the rule of law. His central issue of blacks being targeted by police doesn't even line up with official statistics on police shootings. After the Freddy Gray incident, the Baltimore police did what people like Kap wanted and backed off and the result is a skyrocketing murder rate. The biggest threat to young black men are gangs in their neighborhoods, not the cops. Why isn't Kap protesting gangs and their destructive impact on society?

Baltimore had 344 murders the year Freddie Gray died and hasn't had that many since, LOL.

Is it too much to ask to find middle ground between doing your job and not killing Freddie Gray?

Official statistics on police shootings? Can I see the data you're referencing? One problem is we don't have a central store of information on police killings. They self report or don't and leave it up.to the public to try to aggregate the data.

You are right in a way. Most Americans won't know, nor care until the things that flag represent are gone. They get it in Hong Kong. They get it in much of the world. That's why lines at the US Embassy almost anywhere you go are around the block. But your constant beratement of the flag as a symbol is childish, and not nearly as clever as you think. I know you are trolling, but you are squarely in that demographic that won't appreciate the freedoms you have until they are gone.

For the most part though you should stfu because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Did you even do any research for your post? Here's a report from Sep last year, when they had already hit the 2017 number. Your post is pure ignorance.
Baltimore homicide rate is on a record high, deadlier than Detroit and Chicago

Yeah, I did research and gave numbers. In 2015 they had 344 and have not reached that mark since.

Missed by just that much in 2017.

He said the murder rate "skyrocketed" after police supposedly "backed off" after the Freddie Gray protests. The rate was up a little bit one out of three years, so no, not even close.
Missed by one. Guess that's not even close.

  • 2019: 215 victims
  • 2018: 309 victims
  • 2017: 342 victims
  • 2016: 318 victims
  • 2015: 342 victims
  • 2014: 211 victims
According to the Baltimore Sun it was a tie.

Context is everything, and I explained it in the last post. Not sure what'll help you get it at this point.
I don't need to get to your point. Way too many murders in Baltimore is my point. Arguing over whether or not enforcement is down given the political situation in that city is immaterial to the dead. Who wants to give a cause for the homicides? Go ahead take a stab or shot at it.

Man, you have been extra crispy cranky all weekend. What'samatta? Trump got your goat?

Cool point. Has nothing to do with anything we're talking about. Go tell it in the Baltimore thread

He wasn’t arguing that the number of murders “wasn’t even close.” Huff was saying the claim that they sky rocketed “wasn’t even close.”

The Freddie Gray murder has also brought to light years of frustration and anger toward the police department. Much of that anger goes back to policing strategies put in place in the 1990s under former Mayor Martin O’Malley, now a Democratic candidate for president, who focused the police department on a “zero tolerance” strategy that relied on achieving arrest quotas, oftentimes of low-level crimes. That strategy, a version of what is often called Broken Windows policing, is sometimes criticized for leading to racial profiling.

From the USA Today Article:
But there’s been a worrying march of killings since the 2015 death of Freddie Gray, who suffered a fatal injury in police custody, that eventually set a new per capita high in 2017.

You are just the type of person that annoys me. On one hand, boast about the alleged symbolism of the flag on one hand, then turn around and do diddly squat when those same symbols are jeopardized and under attack by liberals and neocons that have successfully stripped away our rights with the Patriot Act and the wars on terror and wars on drugs, destroyed the idea of a traditional nuclear family in the mainstream, rob us blind with the Fed Reserve and endless wars overseas, and have made Christianity in this country a nearly extinct religion...

But you rage all day about some football player taking a knee.

That flag and that anthem are the least of this country's problems.

We agree on this.

As far as 'raging' re Kaeperdick... naaah. I really don't give that excrement the time of day. He has never done anything brave in his life. Playing football is not brave. Taking a knee is not brave. Coming out of the closet and having your junk cut off is not brave.

Going to Afghanistan or Iraq and getting shot at is brave. Kaeperdick, by comparison is a whiney pussy.

I don't disagree with your first paragraph.
