The tide is about to turn in UT recruiting

Whew! When I first saw the thread title, I thought Nick Saban was about to drop a bomb in our laps.

speaking of dropping a bomb, Nick Saban is so short, he has to use a step stool to get on the toilet...GBO!

This is not a doom and gloom post - just a dose of reality for the doom and gloomers and those who still think its the 1990s and A. Wilson, J. Henderson, P. Price, J. Lewis, P. Manning, et al. are still on the roster - or that the roster is filled with people of that talent level.

Look, UT finished the season in the SEC with a 7-6 (after bowl game). who did we finish ahead of or with the same record as?? Kentucky, USCjr, Vandy, and Miss St. - Thats It! You need to realize that over the past few years under the former coaching regime UT slowly became a lower echelon SEC team and a mid-level team nationally at best. Prior to this season we finished 2 of the last 3 seasons at 5-7. the year in between - 9 wins that everyone got all excited about. the losses that season were to Cal, Gators, and Bama. Wins - Arkansas St, UL-Lafayette, Miss St, KY, Vandy, S. Miss, Arkansas, USCjr in OT...the only quality win we had was beating GA at home. WOW now thats impressive. Wake up!

How about recruiting? the years Prior to Kiffin & Co taking over we had a #24 ranked class and a #35 ranked class, with a top 5 class sandwiched in between (signed 32 palyers). I invite you to go look at those classes. You'll find that most of the guys that stared for us this season came from that class not the other classes.

All this just goes to show what LV and others are saying - we as UT fans need to have some lowered - or I'll just say more realistic expectations. Realize just how far we as a program have declined over the past few years. Then give the new staff some credit if not a great deal of credit to be able to recruit at such a high level to a down program. a top ten class year one. A winning record and a bowl with mostly non-SEC talent on the roster year one. And what looks to be a top 10 if not top 5 recruiting class two years in a row. Relax and enjoy watching UT rebuild and become an elite team again...two years from now

So sorry. Didn't realize that an internet message board had to be in MLA format.

That's better. ;)

Let's just agree to disagree about this season. I think we're all in agreement that we like where we are headed and that we hope we close strong in the recruiting season as we typically have in the past. Let's put 2009 behind us. It kind of sucked to be a vol most of the time.

Alright man truce. Tired of arguing about it anyways

Good post. I can get on board with that.

If you don't think most everything surrounding our athletic program of late is negative, well them I'm sorry, but I can't do much for you. I really suggest you take a step out of your bubble.

I'm going to be blunt and honest here. I have only passing interest in UT basketball and was never as excited about Pearl as most. I know others thought/think he waltzes on water but I simply don't like his style. The program seems to have more than its share of undisciplined players since he took over.

OTOH, I don't think the football season was a complete negative. I'm not going to try to spin it though. You are right. A 7-6 record and pathetic bowl showing aren't what I was looking for.

Before the season I felt like UT could field a competitive team with the first line guys but had no depth. Injuries hurt UT all year. For the first half, the passing game stank it up because Jones and Moore were missing. In the second half UT simply ran out of LB's.

So the positive I can take out of that is when UT was healthy defensively... they looked very good. When UT was healthy offensively, they looked credible even without the kind of talent other upper echelon SEC teams have. When UT once again has some depth of talent then perhaps they can piece together a whole season?

I think we did well seeing as VT had 4X more talent then we have. 7-6>5-7. i mean come on. there was no way we were going to go 9-3 or anything close to there.

1,000 post WOOO!

I think UT could have been 9-3 or even better. UT was only out of one game in the regular season. If everyone had been healthy from August 1 until December then UT could have done much better... I know injuries are part of the game and having all your critical guys healthy for a whole season isn't exactly realistic.... but it is in the realm of possibilities.

I totally agree with you here, although I am a big Pearl fan (he has been very stern with players who have stepped out of line, and I hope he does the same with the current situation), i've been very disappointed with his team the past couple of years. That being said, he has taken this program to heights it has never even sniffed in the past, so I think we are a little spoiled there.

Nonetheless, I think we're on the same page.

Your right but the point is with the talent we have we shouldn't have been close to 9-3.

You know those who are unreasonably optimistic live on average two years longer than those who are attune to all the fine shadows of reality. The emergent death wish on VolNation is palpable. So much attachment to discerning gloominess. You gotta believe!!:superman: Oh yeah and a robust grounded optimism is the foundation of actualization.

I'm pretty sure you're nothing more than a troll. If not do us all a favor, find another team and GTFO.

We'll close out with Cullen, Green, and at least one of Robinson, Arie, Wilson, Coleman, or Stone. That's three 4 star prospects with Green having a chance of being a five star.

Taylor should get a fourth star and move up in the rankings, basically this replaces Willis when we factor in the M. Dixon commit.

We still have an outside shot of landing guys like Lemonier, Quarles, A Dixon, Robey, Dorsey, Wright, and other highly rated prospects.

LV, maybe you should start a negative thread & have a bunch of positive posters come & ruin it. Just a thought, my friend. :eek:lol:

Thanks for all of your contributions to this board! :hi:

Things are already turning around and it's just day 1:

- commitment from Marcques Dixon
- Robey talking very good about the Vols
- Ahmad Dixon decommitting from Baylor and having a top 3 of "Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn."
- rumored to maybe get some good news from Chaz Green by the end of the week
- making a big push for Lemonier and having an in-home with him tonight

V,B

No no, LV, there's nothing to be happy about. We are failing the recruiting game now. heheh

V,B indeed

I am getting pretty pumped up about this, and I am ready for NSD to come around as well as the AA game.

Nick Saban reporting us for cheating.....well get in line behind all the other failed attempts to nail us on false charges.
