I retracted the better player based on their prime. Only because Spieth hasn't hit his prime. Where Tiger was as Jordan's current age, what makes you think tiger is better?

I only played golf with one of them, and he did not get paid by anyone. It was at my home course, and no one knew about it until it happened. It was a casual round of golf with someone I had met a couple of years before.

Also, nobody paid the other pros that I met.

That proves jordan scored just as well on a more difficult augusta course and tiger hasn't been able to recapture that performance even with better equipment. So you saying tiger's 97 win was better because he used metal shafts proves.... Wait for it..... Nothing.

Tiger in his prime is the greatest golfer to ever play the game. There's no debate. To argue otherwise means you're trolling, flat out stupid or 15 and just discovered the Internet.

You are the one who brought up equipment. I would say that Tiger's 975D was probably superior to Horton Smith's persimmon. It is interesting that Tiger went back to that 975D in 2003 after winning the Masters and U.S. Open in 2002 ( and 7 other victories) with a more technologically advanced Nike driver. He must not have thought that the "baby driver" was all that bad.

To compare players in different eras is stupid. Nicklaus was the best for many years, and Tiger was the best for several years, etc. . Spieth, Fowler, McIlroy, Watson, and Johnson are way better right now.

I think that there is a debate. Put a young Jack Nicklaus out there with Tiger, both in their primes....it would be interesting. I first saw Nicklaus play when he was 26 or 27 years old. Nicklaus did not have Tiger's short game, but he was a winner. If he had needed to improve his short game to compete, he would have done it, like he did when he got older.

Players of every era in every sport improve as the years pass, but put them in the same time frame, and there is definitely a debate.

There is a debate. Not only is Spieth at his age than tiger, but old jack has more majors and still will once tiger is finished.

Pretty much. Spieth has played well for four months. Tiger went on a roughly 144 month tear where he was head and shoulders above the field. People would actually bet Tiger against the field in tournaments. Spieth isn't even number one in the world right now, and players like Bubba, Rory and DJ are hot on his heels every event. Spieth won last weekend when everyone else that mattered except DJ was already in Scotland.

Tiger has been #1 in the world for 683 weeks. That's over 13 years of being number one. Phil is considered an all time great and in the grand scheme of things, never got close to toppling Tiger. Tiger's biggest rival was himself. If Spieth wins, he'll get his first week of being number one. Only 682 more to go. If he wins.

I will not argue that Spieth is or will be better than Tiger. Maybe, maybe not. That bar is set awfully high, and Spieth has many more young competitors who are not easily intimidated, like Davis Love, Tom Lehman, Colin Montgomerie, and some of the other top golfers of the Tiger era were.

In Spieth's defense, he has played well a lot longer than 4 months.

2013: 23 tournaments.. 4 Top 2..9 Top 10..$3.9 million
2014: 27 tournaments.. 2 Top 2.. 8 Top 10..$4.3 million
2015: 18 tournaments.. 7 Top 2.. 11 Top 10..$ 8.7 million

Tiger hasn't won a major since losing his 54 hole lead at the PGA in 2009 to Y.E. Yang. After someone finally came down the stretch and took it away from him, he hasn't been quite the same. It took a player who wasn't intimidated like Love, Lehman, Singh. Els, Garcia, Montgomerie, Goosen, Bjorn, etc. were. He may win more, and he may never. Only time will tell. I don't count him out. Talent tends to resurface, but who knows? Duval couldn't get it back.
