The Tiger Woods saga

Just announced plans to build a golf course in Thompson Station, TN. For those not familiar with Middle Tennessee, that's in Williamson County close to Franklin.

Read the Time magazine interview yesterday. Surely Woods is smart enough to figure out some way to play competitive golf again. Sounds like he's getting some of the mental aspects figured out again (putting his family before golf). Now up to how healthy he can get and for how long.

He is toast. I pulled for him until the truth broke. Great wife, great kid, great life and he is partying with hookers and porno stars not occasionally but every weekend. He never recovered from the golf club incident. Justice was served IMO.

Yeah, he looks devastated in those pictures.

Tigers body has just gave out on him. He's still a solid golfer but he's most likely not going to return to the Tiger everyone feared. He seems a lot more at peace with himself than in his earlier days. He's loaded rich, seems to love his kids and is happy in life. He made mistakes but now seems happy

I don't see why anyone would actually believe he'll be Tiger of old ever again. I know most of it is fans hoping he will but come on. We've been hearing he's going to be "back" for almost 8 years now.

I won't even say he definitely won't win another major, but if you really think he's going to win 4 or 5 more, you're chasing a pipe dream.

Good - Jack Nicklaus will keep the crown. Woods doesn't deserve it.

Wonder how long the media will continue to dry hump the has-been's leg??

I don't expect him to be the tiger of old, that ship as sailed where he could win a tournament by double digits

I'd still like to see him competitive in the Majors and win a couple of more

Sure Jack may have more majors, but in his prime, Tiger is the greatest golfer to ever play the game.

I don't think you can compare the 2 because of equipment. Jack played most of his career with persimmon head drivers, rubber band wound golf balls and irons with aluminum shafts. How do you think Tiger would fare hitting those? Yes, the courses are longer but Augusta, St Andrews and others are still the same. If there had been no Jack probably would be no Tiger. The amount of 2nd and 3rd place finishes Jack had were also phenomenal and for more years. I bet Tiger does not win the Masters at 46.

No way to know that. You can't compare eras. Nicklaus played with the worst, most inconsistent golf ball during his prime because he was under contract to MacGregor.

He was enough better than the field that he didn't have to work on his short game until he got older. If Tiger had been there to push or beat him, Nicklaus would have done what was necessary to compete.

Also, champions are champions due to their mental makeup. I have a feeling that those 2 would get the better of each other often. I also saw Nicklaus play in his prime several times, in person. I walked the final 36 holes at Baltusrol, and watched a 27 year old Nicklaus battle and beat a 37 year old Arnold Palmer head to head.

Tiger was as good a ball striker the PGA has ever caught on film. The game was the game long before Jack and will be long after Tiger. Tiger would've still been there. In his prime, Tiger could have played with featheries and beaten Hagen and Jones. And just quit before you throw out Moe Norman. No one was good from tee to green in the history of the game as Tiger. If he had the putter working as well, nothing, no equipment, field conditions or other players were going to stop him.

Tiger was not ever a very good driver of the golf ball, and he struggled with distance control of his short irons early in his career. He had a marvelous short game, including putting when he was at his best.

In person, I have seen Nicklaus, Palmer, Trevino, Snead, Hogan, Weiskopf, Johnny Miller, Billy Casper, Lanny Wadkins, Strange, Crenshaw, Kite, Faldo, Greg Norman, Ballesteros, Littler, Boros, Player, George Knudsen, Floyd, Couples, etc. I am sure that I left a few good ones out, but pretty much every really good golfer from the mid-60's until maybe 2000. The best ball strikers that I have seen were Boo Weekley , Trevino, Hogan, and George Knudsen. Strangely enough, none were particularly good putters, or they would have dominated.
