The truth about 2nd hand smoke..

No, non-smokers should create a demand for a non-smoking restaurant or some non-smoker with money should start up a chain of restaurants that are smoke free.

They did create a demand. A demand to gets the law changed to respect the rights of non-smokers which are the majority.

You act like the smoker is losing his freedom but what about the freedom of the non-smoker to not have to breathe 2nd hand smoke?

Why don't you just ban the stuff all together instead of opening up this Pandora's box by creeping into the bar owner's property rights? If you feel that non-smokers are being punished by all of this cigarette smoke, just outlaw the stuff.

Bar owner's property rights? Is someone trying to take their property?

You own property/business so you can do whatever you want? Rob, shoot, or steal?

Wow, so smoking is akin to robbing, shooting, or stealing now?

Again, no one is forcing you to go on to their property. Can't wait till they outlaw drinking at home using these thought lines. Drunks make for poor parents, government gotta protect.

Well apparently if you own property, your suppose to be able to do whatever you want. Isn't that your arguement?

Again, no one is forcing you to go on to their property.

Exactly, no one is forcing you to go there, if you want to smoke, stay in your house or car and do it, so it doesn't bother people enjoying their dinner.

Pretty much, yea.

Exactly, no one is forcing you to go there either. But, you feel your rights are higher than the rights of others and so you prefer laws to make sure your "rights" are protected.

It amazes that a smoker cant sit down for an hour and have a meal without lighting up a cigarette. That's not an unreasonable expectation.
Try an AIRPLANE if U 'want to wait awhile to smoke. believe me! Travel Agent who smokes! It"s not bad!

That's right, the majority rules. I believe that's called a democracy. The majority of people don't smoke.

democratic system of government: a system of government based on the principle of majority decision-making

Unfortunately, it seems more and more people are in line with your tilted view of what America is. Minorities beware of Oklavol and his ilk.

You would probably like living in China. They have lots of smoke in the cities and you can smoke anywhere you want. The govt doesn't care what the majority of the people want either.

I don't care what the majority of people want, I prefer rights be upheld.

I am capable of understanding the rights a person should have even if I find the activity to be disgusting.

China would be more to your liking, the government is into knowing what is "best" for the citizens.

Again, watch out minorities, oklavol and his democracy are coming after you.

I think the situation will work itself out. Restaurants that decide to go the smoker route will probably end up doing poor business and switch over to smoke-free. So everyone that was demanding non-smokers need to create a demand really can just flip the scenario. Smokers are now going to have to create a demand or they won't have eateries where they can smoke.

I am all for the private sector working it out, in fact I am 100% for it.

Yes, but before hand, some situations were forced.

Granted. However, the ball is now in the smoker's court. Either make it worth the restaurant's while to provide for you, or watch everyone switch over.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if this results in a lot of restaurants providing some sort of outdoor smoking lounge-type area where patrons can head when they need to light up.
