Isner scares the crap out of Nadal. I guarantee it. The guy tends to give him fits. Whether it was him taking Rafa to five sets in the FO a few years ago, or just a weekend ago in Cincy when Rafa couldn't break his serve in two sets, Rafa does seem to have trouble with Isner.

Isner v. Monfils should be a good match. There is no guarantee Isner wins that, but I do think he will. Monfils this round and possibly Kohlschreiber next round could take Isner to five sets. That could be problematic because I just don't see Rafa dropping a set between now and then and I don't see Isner beating Rafa unless he's physically fresh.

J.T. from the broadcast crew (I think that's his name) says Monfils is a head case and will lose the match rather than flat out getting beat. He makes a good point, IMO.

BTW, where's Dyron? I enjoy seeing you guys go back and forth some. You are both so much more insightful than I when it comes to these..

I Jhei Jheng is winning 75 percent of her first serves, the person on the other side of the net probably doesn't belong out there. The person on the other side of the net: Venus Williams. Poor girl might need to hang it up, health problems and all..

Yeah, she should stop playing singles. Her and Serena are still quite competitive as a doubles team, but Venus' days of being a competitive singles player are tiny specks in the rearview.

Pretty much every player from France is a headcase. But Monfils is probably the most headcasey of them all. He's EXTREMELY talented, and yet I'm not even certain if he's ever made the quarterfinals of a slam. I mean, with the way he squanders talent, he should change his name to Mark Richt. Ba dum ching!

Seriously, have you ever see Monfils play? Crazy good athlete. Picture perfect strokes on both wings. And yet he's basically mediocre. What I wouldn't give for that guy's talent.

Dyron will be back aorund. I'm sure of it. He likes to pop in and out. He's just resting up for the home stretch.

They're a great doubles team, no doubt. As for the singles, yeah..that's about a wrap for Venus.

LOL!! Yes, Monfils is a hell of an athlete and can run the rubber off his shoes, but he CHOOSES to go for the spectacular when the smart will do.

Just making sure on D. Didn't know if we needed to get the neighbors all out looking for him, or what. :)

How many years away are we from an American male winning another major?

None. Isner, this tournament.

Hell, I don't know, supposedly we have a good crop of tennis players coming up, so hopefully it will be within the next few years. But my point, which may seem surprising, COULD come to fruition. Basically no one can break his serve, so who knows?

Might be awhile. I personally don't see any of our current crop having the talent to make a serious push past the big 3. Isner is the best shot we have, nut is a bit of a head case. Could he hold it together from the quarters onward?

The rest of the younger guys are (in my opinion) destined for journeyman like careers. I hope I am wrong...

Isner is fine mentally, he's just too tall. Well, let me rephrase that. His height would be fine if he could still move well. But he can't. His movement isn't any good, and you don't win majors with your main weakness being lack of agility. Agility is half the game.

Honestly, you're right. Isner is playing the best tennis of his life and with that monster serve of his it isn't completely outside the realm of possibility that he could win it.

Would I bet on it? No.
But it's conceivable.

I don't see anybody in the crop of early 20s Americans winning a major.

Rhyne Williams? Would love it, but ain't happening.
Denis Kudla? For a guy whose game is similar to Lleyton Hewitt, he needs to ferocious like Hewitt was. I don't think he is.
Ryan Harrison? I have a better chance of having unprotected sex with Anna Kournikova and having it broadcast on live television.
Christian Harrison? Too small. Not enough weapons.
Bradley Klahn? See christian harrison.
Stevie Johnson? If they gave out majors for terrible moustaches, he'd definitely win.
Jack Sock? He is our best shot, but I think he lacks the fire and competitiveness. The talent is there.

After that, we've got that kid from UCLA who had a nice showing in the qualies before David Goffin absolutely beat the funk out of him.

And then we've got Stefan Koslov, who is like 14 or 15, and is still waiting on a growth spurt, but is apparently the real deal mutha trucking holyfield.

Let's give him another day or two before alerting the authorities.

Yeah, Monfils is absurdly talented. He was the best junior in the world when he was 17 and 18, but in the pros you gotta be smart and dedicated and super competitive and super fit. And he's none of the above.

Testament to the Jack Sock statement, he just dropped a set to someone called Maximo Gonzalez, or something like that, ranked in the mid-200's 6-1. Dude goes all walk-about from time to time.

He's ranked 247. This is a DREAM draw for Jack Sock, and he looks like crap. The REALLY sad thing is, Gonzalez is making him look that way..

The Maria Bueno interview was priceless, if anyone wants to see if they can see the repeat broadcast later on. She is an absolute gem.

Fed is playing pretty well. Don't see any more majors in him, but I don't think he can be just an afterthought at this one. Could make some noise..

I'm around but super busy at work and haven't had time to join in the conversation. Only watched bits and pieces of the top players.

Nadal, Murray and Djokovic are all in top form. Going out on a huge limb, your winner will be one of those three.

Nadal has been very impressive, but then I watch Djokovic and think he is in form. Same for Murray.

I have no confidence in anyone else in the field. But I admit I haven't seen much of other matches.

The highlight of the tournament (and year) for me was the white dude dressed in white cheering louder for Ivo Karlovic than the rest of the stadium combined cheering for James Blake. That guy was insane or drunk, but it was the funniest thing I've seen in a while.
