The unofficial list

A bunch of players that would be consider "more talented" than the bunch you mentioned. Our roster is full of 4 star players. The next coach has an easier job than Pearl did talent wise hands down.

More talented? Really? CJ actually plays in the NBA. You know that, right? Lofton was one of the, if not THE, most prolific three point shooters in Vol history. JaJuan could flat out play and I think he came close to making an NBA squad. Now, factor in there is a better than average chance that Hopson and Harris leave, then tell me you really believe the next coach will be inheriting "more talented" players. That's delusional.

If not for the fact it would be giving Hammy a vote of confidence, I would join the list. I really hope he doesn't screw this up.

I am wondering how some of these self-annointed basketball genuises are going to prove the new hire is a better coach than Pearl. Because Hat said so isn't good enough. It is really a mystery to me why some of these "experts" aren't being consulted by TUOT as to whom they should hire

There is no question there are better coaches out there. While I think we will get a really good coach, we will be extremely lucky to get someone better. IMO

Consider the program's current status...

Gone are;
J Bone
J Fields
M Goins
S Pearl
B Williams

T Harris and S Hopson NBA draft bound...

Current roster (barring no requests to transfer);
T Golden
K Hall
J Maymon
S McBee
J McRae
R Murphy
T Summitt
C Tatum
And
R Woolridge

Commitments;
C Jones-will he remain? Unknown
K Ware-wants out

All current recruits will need to be re-recruited.

Fact is, even talented stalwarts like Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Jim Calhoun, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, or Roy Williams would have a difficult go during their first year or three, possibly longer.

Patience Vol fans, it will take some time.

ok just a quick couple of questions, since you have a criteria:

Does he need a 4-9 record against Kentucky?

If he has a 100% NCAA tournament appearance in the 1st round but also owns the record for the worst defeat by an 8 seed ever does he still garner coaching attention? Meaning Hampton lost by 40+ to Duke does the more you lose by the better the coach you are?

Does he need to be Jewish? I am not being anti-semitic just asking, since it has to be Bruce Pearls resume to be better and since in religion I dont know what is as good as or better I am just asking.

If it happens we sign a coach who could possibly leave his University with post-season ban, recruiting restricitons, scholarship limits, tv contracts, or any combination of all of the above, would that be part of your criteria?

ADD ME...

It amazes me that people actually think there was no basketball program in Knoxville before Bruce Pearl...I'm old enough to remember Ray Mears...There was basketball played at UT before Pearl...

In addition, put me on the list that was a big Pearl supporter...He raised the bar, no doubt, but he screwed up...He is paying a stiff penalty for his own actions...I hate it...I REALLY do but the program HAD to do this...

My hope is tempered somewhat by Hamilton still having a job...He has no business being involved in the next coaching search...

How about someone better in the sense that if we keep the coach (who everyone thinks we want) we have currently and this reflects on the program and we get a 2 year postseason ban, reduction of 4 schollys a year, and no road recruiting for the head coach or assostant head coach

OR

we get no postseason ban, reduction of 2 schoolys this year and 1 scholly in 2012, and limited recruiting for head coach only

Now which coach is better?

I didn't say anything about keeping Pearl nor do I think he is the best coach UT has ever had. It is likely I have seen exponentially more UT basketball than you. I am stating that we will be lucky to get a better "coach" in the sense of coaching. It doesn't mean we won't get a really good coach. It just means Pearl was a really good fit here at UT. He screwed that up himself and lost his job over his inexcusable actions. A lot of people who forgot more about the game that anyone in this forum will ever know will agree with me.

There is no need in trying to be smart about it.

Hindsight is 20/20. Whose to say none of the people on our future roster next year wont make the league. Before Bruce came lofton wasnt highly praised nor was JaJuan. Saying that our future team will be more talented is far from delusional. In fact if you compare the rosters my statement could be seen as pure fact. Surely you wouldnt compare Bruces incoming roster to the future coaches and say he has it worse off. You would be delusional. Like I said hindsight is 20/20 you have no clue how these guys will develop in the next 2-3 years.

Not so fast my friend! Harris will most likely be back after hearing that interview from his dad. I am hearing also that Hopson is leaning towards staying. Also I expect to have Ware and Jones still hear to! We will be alright.

I'm proud to be on there and I can't wait for Coach Martin to prove you wrong.

Assuming that Martin isn't hammered with NCAA crap from Pearl's tenure, he will be successful.

welp, he is at least as good.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....good one

so basically Zo failed the checklist. So does that mean everybody who signed their name to that list was wrong? Guess we will find out in 5 years. He is still our coach though and I back him 100%. GBO!

No one knows if the new coach will be better or worse than Pearl. Hopefully, he won't commit NCAA violations that puts our entire basketball program in peril. No matter who we hired, no one can absolutely say they are going to be successful as there are too many factors involved. I say get behind the new coach and support the program. Give him a chance to show what he can do. Hopefully, he will continue the progress we've made in basketball and exceed our current status. No reason to say that can't be done at this point.
