As suggested in another thread, a thread for Veterans to talk, reminisce, reconnect, share info, bring problems and help each other when needed.

This came about from four of us in the Gruden thread finding out we were in the same deployed location at the same time ten years ago and never knew it. But were connected through similar experiences and remembering the same places and things. It kind of snowballed from there into an all out "remember when" night for us former (and a few current) .mil folks.

Doesn't matter how long or short you served, what branch you were in or what job you did. We all are lifelong brothers and sisters connected by that uniform we wore or wear.

I'll start it off. I was USAF from 1993-2013, Security Police/Forces for all 20 years. Was stationed at Eglin AFB, Keflavik NAS, Peterson AFB, Spangdahlem AB and rounded out my career at Tinker AFB. Deployed to Cuba, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq during my time.

I was never in the military but some of my family members were. This will be a fun thread to lurk in.

Thank you all for your service.

Always amazed how many veterans you run across, especially wearing the Orange and White. Thanks for putting this together.

I have the utmost respect for veterans. My dad was career Navy, and I was a Navy brat until he was medically discharged. I was just starting high school when that happened. When you grow up in the life, you find it's almost like you served yourself, at least for me it was. You carry a deeper appreciation of what our fighting men and women face. I was lucky, my dad always came home. Some friends' fathers did not.

Truly grateful for your service. :salute:

I'm a Navy brat. Moved every two years for most of my life. My dad served 30 years. I always wanted to serve, and when I went for my vision test in high school, I was much more color blind than I had thought... so went to UT, thought about it again after 4 years, but after always wanting to be a line officer, the supply corps didn't really appeal to me, so I gave it up.

My dad served just shy of 22 years. He wanted to stay in, but his knees gave out and the doctors told him he had to retire. Back then, my dad was rarely a crier, but on the day of his ceremony, he bawled like a baby. The Navy was more than a profession to him, it was his life.

What did he do in the navy

Old Desert Storm vet here. I enlisted into the Army in 1985 and ETS'd in Sept of 1992. I can say I was lucky to receive a family diary from my Mothers great Aunt after she passed, that documents Her/my families involvement with just about every war this country has ever had. Starting with my G-Father 10 times removed fighting as a ranger against the British at Kings Mountain in NC. I had family members fighting against each other during the civil war, but in different theaters of operations, my fathers side fighting in a PA regiment and my Mothers side in Ark regiments. The list is long with my G-Fathers and Uncles Volunteering to fight for this country. I still have, currently one Nephew in the Army today. He's already in to Afgan back in 2008.

US Army from 1991-1998: Basic and AIT at Ft. Sill, 1st Armored Div at Kirch Gons, Germany; 82nd Airborne Div at Ft. Bragg; and 101st Airborne Div at Ft. Campbell.

KY National Guard from 1998-2001

I was never deployed to a combat zone even though I was a combat arms MOS; my enlistment fit tightly between the Gulf Wars. Therefore, I’m grateful to all of you that served but especially those who served in combat for the sake of this Great Nation.

USN 1998-2010, AWC......Helos, not those ***** P3 AW's. Most of my career early on was drug ops in the Caribbean (horrible duty lol) and from 01 to 09 did 4 deployments across the pond in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf. Spent last year recovering from knee injuries sustained from a crash landing due to a turd maintenance guy who didn't properly service a tail rotor coupling dampner. Medically retired and now working for the Army as a civilian.
