The Big 12 leader is ranked 14th, so that bumps the last at-large team, which currently is us.

No but now we don't just need a handful of SEC teams to lose. Other teams outside of conference losing (BYU, Boise, Notre Dame, etc) pretty much gets us in.
Notre Dame, yes, but not the other two. If Boise loses, they will be replaced by the new highest ranked Group of 5 team. If BYU loses, they will be replaced by a new representative from the Big 12, which right now would be Colorado. We need an at-large team ahead of us to lose to put us into the field.

Miami, BYU, Indiana, and maybe Notre Dame are going to look at possible losses. I think Tennessee is in a good spot right now to be the first team out depending on what happens the next 2 weekends.
Of course all that can change. They have to beat UTEP soundly (by 3 TDs or more) and have to whoop up on Vandy.

Does anybody think the Vols team we saw Saturday could beat Georgia or even Arkansas if we had to play them again ?

The automatic qualifier for the conference game winner is very silly now that we are seeing it play out. BYU ranked 14 but in the playoff.
This. The fact that any year a 24th ranked mid major conference champion would be in over a two loss bubble SEC team is a joke. Just rank the 12 best teams and put them in the playoff.

One of the committee members just said that probably the most important factor as far as ranking teams, outside of the obvious, when it comes to SOS, stats, etc. is the eye test and actually watching the games. Tennessee probably didn't help themselves a lot in this area with so many close games against mediocre opponents...and the stretch of not scoring in the first half. Hopefully they can overcome that though in the next two weeks.

Tennessee is 8-2 and finally allowed over 20 points for the first time all season to Georgia of all people. I don’t think the eye test is some negative for Tennessee as people think.
