It would be shocking and have the same emotional effect as the comic. I don't think as many people would actually quit watching as they claim they would. They'd hang around to at least see how it's followed up and want to see Negan get his comeuppance. That death immediately makes Negan TV's new Joffery Baratheon.

I'd honestly be more ok with Rick getting the axe than Daryl. I wouldn't be surprised to see something happen to see a return of zombie ear wearing Daryl, similar to Ricks change at the end of season 4 iirc.

Glenn will probably eat it, and then return next season completely fine and alive, cause his skull was made out of titanium alloy the entire time.

I have thought that for a while. Daryl has really replaced a few characters in being Rick's right hand guy and so for that to happen would agree with the comic and be shocking.

On the other hand, I also feel like Glenn may bite it that way and push Maggie to "suicide by walker" like Carol in the comics. I mean, at that point she will have pretty much lost everything.

I could see that happening if they hadn't done the fakeout death for Glenn. Also, they're the only real couple left in the group. Without either Glenn or Maggie the writers can't use their tried and true separation-obstacles-reunion story line.
