The Weightlifters Thread

Muscletech? Bodybuilding conspiracy theorists claim you need to be one of Weider's guys to win the big contests. It mostly just applies to the Olympia (Kai Greene won the Arnold, and he's not Weider).

If he can get results, that's fine. I just like the guys I can relate to. If I lifted like him, I'd get injured.

I just like his intenstiy. Most bodybuilders have awful form, but they do what works for them (juice). Kai has always been big, but he lacks detail in certain areas and usually fades away on stage. He is nowhere near Phil Heath.

Phil's come a long way. Crazy progress, juicing or not.

Nobody is, IMO. I don't think Kai has any weaknesses. His strengths are he probably has a top 3 back, and the best legs in the business. Legs don't usually win competitions, though. Bad legs will lose competitions, but outstanding legs won't win them.

IMO, Kai's biggest issue has been contest prep. I think he's a bit of a headcase and if he is thrown off mentally, crap hits the fan.

I can agree on all those points.

Don't follow bodybuilding. Wished it was more about asthhetics than size like it was in the earlier days.

No doubt. I don't keep up with any of that anymore; however an old roomie of mine that got me into working out (he was an amateur bodybuilder, now in the Marines) had all sorts of old Olympia tapes around. That was some truly impressive stuff.

Agreed. Love Frank Zane. I can appreciate the size, but at the same time, a guy like Zane isn't getting in the door these days, and that's a shame. You'd probably like Ronny Rockel:

Bodybuilding has become too much of a size game. The last of the aesthetically pleasing bodybuilders were in the 80's. Now everyone looks like a damn cartoon.

Size is all it's about anymore. Back in the day it was about proportion. I truly believe that bodybuilding was much more difficult in the 60's and 70's than it is now.

The best bodybuilders are all antiques now. It's more inspiring to look at old photos than the crap that's out there now. I used to be a long time subscriber to Flex magazine but I let it go last year b/c it was too out of touch with reality.

Listen baker, I'm not hating. It is amazing but my question boils down to, is it worth it? Look at all the bodybuilders who don't make it to 50 years of age now.

That is a primary cause. There have been many others that died from heart disease. Of course the real culprit is the steroid abuse.
