I'm glad I was right and they went with Abraham. We welcomed that kid to Vols baseball. They have to win game 1, first, so they'll fire all their bullets if they're available. If they save him for game 2 a day later on Thursday, that puts his weekend availability in greater jeopardy than pitching him on Wednesday. Their season is on the line tomorrow first and foremost...Arnold will go on 4 days rest if necessary, perhaps with a pitch count.
Yep, the moment was too big for him, for sure. I'm shocked they took that route.I'm glad I was right and they went with Abraham. We welcomed that kid to Vols baseball.
Arnold was on my radar to start but Abraham wasn't even a blip. LJ had to be thinking FSU could force a game 2 then he would come in with Arnold. They're probably more than a few FSU questioning his decision to start Abraham. Yep time to move on.Yep, the moment was too big for him, for sure. I'm shocked they took that route.
What FSU and Link Jarrett did was akin to Tennessee starting Marcus Phillips in an elimination game with Drew Beam on the bench after 4 days rest. Phillips, like Abraham for FSU, has a ton of talent, but you just don't want to let your season hang in the balance of the arm of a kid who has started 2 or 3 games all season when you have an experienced, more talented arm available. Like I said before, they had to win yesterday to get to today. Conventional wisdom says you fire your bullets to give yourself a shot. What they did was gamble and they wet the bed immediately, and Tennessee is too good and too experienced to spot a 3-run lead on a hunch or a gamble. Link Jarrett has forgotten more baseball than I'll ever know, but I'll bet he regrets that decision in hindsight unless there was some physical limitation with Arnold that we don't know about.
That being said, kudos for hitting on this one, and glad we were the beneficiaries of that decision. Go Vols, beat the Yell Leaders!
Link said in his presser that Arnold wasn’t ready to go. They talked to Arnold before the game and he wasn’t ready.Arnold was on my radar to start but Abraham wasn't even a blip. Didn't see his presser but the idea he wasn't ready should have been a consideration for me but after announcing Abraham, I just thought he was saving him in case they forced another game.Link said in his presser that Arnold wasn’t ready to go.
