I said UT couldn't beat Kentucky right now, the way its been playing

By the end of the year, if the Vols are playing harder, and as a unit, then yes....

But right now, on a neutral site, I'd take the Big Blue by 6.

THings could change by February...

I agree the defense was pretty horrible. I was making a reference of how everyone talks about the same UT team we have now is the same as last year and if Jodie Meeks can light them up for 54, what does that say for a more skilled player like Wall? It's not the same team. maybe the same players but the D has picked up tremendously.

What does HORSE have to do with being a great team?

Saying Wall is more skilled is 100% accurate, but the difference in the 2 players is also vast. UT refused to play any perimeter defense, either straight up or off the pick. Meeks shot it all year just like he did against UT, as he had like 5 or 6 thirty point games.

Also, Meeks was on a team with LIMITED offensive options, and thats being nice. Outside of PPat, there was nothing. He had to have that kind of game, or UK lost.

Wall on the other hand, has a supporting cast that dwarfs that of Meeks. Wall cannot pop off of screens or the dribble. You don't have to guard him 30-35 feet from the basket. (Which in all fairness, nobody can guard Wall that far from the basket)

Wall will still get his I think, but its just in a different way. He is not always looking to score, and works hard to keep others involved. With the 7 assists he is averaging per game, 15-20 points is a great night from him offensively.

Again, we depended on Meeks to do ALL of the scoring. Wall doesn't have to do that. Instead, he seems to score when we really need it. When a team makes a run, or things are stagnant. Its just a different situation altogether.

As for UT's defense, I think it has improved somewhat. Though it certainly could not have gotten much worse. (just saying it like it is)

Wall could still go for 50 against UT if he wanted to. Not only do we not play perimeter defense, but we don't play half-court defense, full-court defense. Any defense you can think of, you better believe we won't play it.

I don't have any beef with this conclusion. I just don't think it has any relevance right now.

I think your fascination with UK is a bit overboard based on one impressive run on their home court.

It's not that a player can become great by playing Horse, or 21...it's that the players found reasons, competed in various contests, to push one another into extra work after practice.

It didn't matter what the game was, so much as the fact that they were staying late and putting in extra work...

Thanks for responding. I am concerned that I could beat JP Prince if we played horse and I stuck with layups.

I agree that a love for basketball and a passion to improve is crucial, but I have heard good things about the work put in by Hopson, Tatum and Smith. Would love some more insight into that if it is not true, you can PM me if you do not want it discussed publicly.

Ms.Cats, more fans should be like you. We really should support each other, except when we play against each other. UK just had two significant wins. The order of the SEC should be UK-UT. If you look at overall tradition, the Cats are there by a landslide, but UT would be second. Cal looks like a great hire and has brought the CATS back to the natural order of the SEC. I say "go Cats", except, of course, when we play you. I am an old timer who would rather beat KY than any team we play. You sound as if beating UT is foremost in your hope to win game.

Although our rivalry with UK in basketball is very important, the success or failure of a ncaa basketball team is determined in March. There is no way to tell at this point in time if UT can beat UK unless all you look at is the little number next to their name.

First and Foremost - I dislike Hat and his "Holier than Thou!" attitude. So this is by no means a defense of him.

BigPapa - I actually enjoy his insights and posts, although I don't see eye to eye on some. Got no problem with BPV.

But - This is a message board. I view this board for "messages", commentary, info, etc. I am an adult. Have been for quite some time. I don't come here for "arguing" just because someone has a different opinion or thought.

Its obvious that you are wanting to engage in a "My junk is bigger than yours" argument with hatvol and Bigpapa. Feel free to do so on your own time. PM them both. I'm sure they will respond.

Give up your petty arguments. There was no reason for your post above. Childish - not adult at all. You've had your words with them (as have I). If you don't like them, put them on ignore. Trust me - the boards have been more pleasant and insightful for me since adding the infamous hatvol to my list.
