Preservation. I could use cedar wood planks but 8ft x 6in boards at lowes are $25 each. Wondering if I use untreated pine with organic stain of some kind will be cheaper and just as effective
Fawking lumber prices are sky high on everything and I can't see th e m coming down any time soon.

Maybe go with a hard wood, cypress, or western red cedar since longevity is your goal.

His wood is always hard when he is in the men’s restroom at the truck stop. But, longevity is not his strong suit.

Cypress if you can find it, no preservatives necessary. Shite will last a century

Anyone use any type of organic paint for outside planter boxes? Building some for herb planting and don't want nasty chemicals leaching into the soil
Here you go. We just used this on kiln-dried, NOT pressure-treated, lumber for a raised bed. No paint, no stain, just water-proofing to add a few more years. I tried to buy local, but no joy. This was via Amazon:
