Just got rid of our above ground pool & thinking of doing a firepit in its place, since the ground is supposed to already be level…….

There will be some leveling you will have to do for sure. I thought it was level where my old one was too, but nope. lol I'm just going to till it all up about 3 or 4 feet on each side of it then level it.

I was gonna use the white pea gravel for the inside if mine, then i found out it was like $140 a ton. Probably just use regular gravel instead

So this is a pretty obvious trellis design that you’ve probably built a hundred times, but I love it, and it’s certainly great for vines. (These are Trachelospermum jasminoides, star jasmine or confederate jasmine.) We keep considering building one of these in a long but shallow spot (16’ x 6’ or so), generally after several adult beverages. Star jasmine isn’t hardy where we live, which is a shame, because it doesn’t drop fruit, so no wasps, just bees. Anyway.

Free standing trellis/swing structure. A frame to match and align with the roof line.depending on desire for privacy maybe continue the "trellis" elements down the side, or use some wire fencing to allow vines to cover it up.

Run strip lighting wherever you are going to grow the vines up the trellis and at the top, but run inside the vines. Really just there to provide effect, not direct lighting.

In the 90s, I was having lunch with my brother under a vine covered trellis at a California restaurant. A cool drop of liquid hit my face, and I asked my brother if they misted the vines. He told me the cool drop of liquid was excrement from innocuous little flying insects in the vines. I looked questioningly at my open beverage glass and my salad. He shrugged and took a big bite of his salad. He picked up the check. Yes, it’s likely I consumed bug poop with my lunch that day. Livin’ the SoCal life…

@Orangeslice13 hold the bug poop in this design.

Maybe run a cloth ceiling to help with the drip factor.

If any of you people do mechanical work, 2023 is going to be rough. New mandates on mechanical equipment, including single family.

The SEER testing system is getting redefined, and stuff manufactured before Jane 1 2023 are not going to be allowed to be installed, not just ordering.

This mandate is already being challenged. I expect a injunction allowing business as usual pending the case. I could be wrong but that’s what normally happens. We will probably end up with a 1-2 year transition period. And 5-10 on repair.
