Things Heating Back Up With Selby

Finally some sense. You don't recruit highly rated guys in hoops and slap redshirts in them. Perfect way to kill future recruiting.

ok fine. he won't redshirt, but he won't play. not if we get selby.

renaldo woolridge was a top 100 recruit. you all act like that means they can step in and be immediate impact players. Golden is probably the least likely to make an immediate impact of all of our recruits

What makes you think he can't be an immediate contributor? He's a very good shooter. Clearly, we are in serious need of that.

yeah i can list you a bunch of players that were good shooters in high school. but he doesn't do enough things good enough to beat out selby and goins at point.

He would play the 2....He's going to get plenty of playing time.

ok, what's your line up?

who else do you have at 2?? Golden is a PG. I suppose because his ball handling is not very good, he doesn't play great defense, and his play-making skills are weak, that pearl could move him to 2.

Where exactly would Golden play next year if Selby is a Vol?

He isn't playing over Selby and Goins.

Isn't playing over Tatum/Hopson and McRae.

So why wouldn't you redshirt Golden? I'm sure he'll be happy with his 3 minutes a game....

Who was a legit good shooter in HS that couldn't at the next level. Please don't bother with the volume shooter types or the slow footed Gus who have no prayer of getting off shots at the next level.

Golden will rotate between the 1&2 and will find plenty of PT.

rotate between 1 & 2? I don't think so. First of all, when you have Selby and Goins, playing time at 1 will only happen against Austin Peay. But even so, I don't think Golden has the skills yet to play point in the SEC.

Golden is a legit shooter....He will get his playing time.

so you think Golden will be like John Jenkins is for Vanderbilt? If that's the case, then yeah, I could see it.

Jenkins was rated higher than Golden is in his class, but from class to class, that's hard to evaluate. BUT, according to Scout, their strengths and weaknesses coming out of high school are nearly identical.

Golden and Jenkins are two very different players.

i'm not saying they are. i'm wondering how vol4eva thinks he will get significant PT. i'm just saying that if he isn't a sharpshooter like jenkins, i don't think he has enough tools to crack our lineup and see significant playing time.

If we get Selby, Golden will be the backup at the two. If not, he will backup Goins at the point. Either way he will get plenty of playing time. Mcrae will move to the 3. Please don't tell me you don't think he can't beat out freakin Skylar Mcbee.

Are you talking about if we get Selby? Ofcourse he won't start if we have Selby, but he would have a legitimate chance to earn the starting point guard position sometime next season. Who's going to hold him off?

first of all, if we don't get selby, this coversation is moot because Golden will definitely back up Goins at point. But if we do, then I suppose it could work if McRae moved to 3:

1 - Selby, Goins
2 - Hopson, Golden
3 - Tatum, McRae, Woolridge
4 - Harris, Maymon
5 - Williams, Hall

I think my hope is that Woolridge improves enough to be a decent backup at 3, and I think McRae is better suited at 2, and Golden's real future is at point. But realistically , Bruce will put guys where they will make the team better - that's how I can see Golden going to 2. So maybe the wildcard in all of this is Woolridge. But I know people don't really expect much from him anymore
