Things that make you feel old...

Remember when the lap served free popcorn and chick tenders? Dollar bush tall boys make me feel old. Fun times!

I'm not that old but I remember having to go outside in Jimtown to point the antenna at Knoxville to pick up channel 6 and 8 and pointing it to Nashville for 5 aand 10. Scratch and sniffstickers were the rage for some unknown reason. Rotary phones were all we had. I am remember when rap came out.It sucked then too. How and why it still exists is a good conspiracy topic. Devil weed was a hard drug. Nashville was a small town. Jamestown had 2 grocery stores and no restaurants. My grandpa was the chief of police. Those were the days. I would literally cry when we lost toBama still do.

Remember ordering "killer pizza" to Hess? Remember the crank down windows in Hess?
Remember Pygmies night at the library?
Remember microfiche at the real library?
Good stuff!

Jimmy Streater and the Vols barely losing in the Bluebonnet Bowl(a bowl that hasn't existed in 30 years and was played in the AstroDome), Mike Weaver knocking out Big John Tate at the Civic Colosseum in the 15th round in a heavyweight title fight in Knoxville and Dale Ellis dominating the SEC without ever shooting a 3, because the 3 didn't exist in college back then. Plus, The Scruffy Little City hosting the World's Fair and looking into Neyland while riding the giant ferris wheel, while UT was playing and beating Alabama for the 1st time in a decade. I could go on, but the effed up thing is ..... I don't remember anymore

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned 8 track tapes.

I actually still have 2 or 3 of those that still work and 300 to 400 8 track tapes.

They're not hooked up but I know I still have them somewhere, LOL!

What's really bad is that I remember having 1 of the older 4 track tape decks with the BIG hole in the back of the tapes.

VFL...GBO!!!

Signs that times are changing...

I went to see a Skynyrd show last year and people used cell phones instead of lighters.

And the 40th anniversary of the crash will be this October

They might as well be considered a tribute band at this point....sad.

Was a Freshman at UT in 2004 and turn 31 tomorrow. Had a cell phone Freshman year, but it wasn't capable of anything but basic calls and we mostly used AOL Instant Messenger to communicate anyways. Being part of the last generation to grow up without internet, smartphones, and insane levels of connectivity is still a little weird. And my knees/back hurt..

Happy birthday

I remember riding my bike across town and staying outside playing until 9. Nowadays kids can barely cross the street without their parents worrying to death and they have to be in when the street lights come on.

The first Tennessee football game that I ever attended was Iowa St in 1982. I was 9 years old. My dad took me and my sister to the World's Fair during the day and the game at night. We beat Iowa St 23-21... that was a special time in the history of Knoxville.

I cried as a little guy when my daddy & uncle left to attend a game in Neyland Stadium. The same uncle took ME to my first UT game in 1964. Thanks, Uncle J.! :hi:

1990 cotton bowl....my parents, aunt & uncle and grand parents did the same things ....sort of.

They all got tickets, and we went to Dallas for Christmas....aunt and uncle lived there... They told us they couldn't get anymore tickets. Me, my brother and cousin were devastated. They played Out the charade for weeks. They surprised all three of us with our tickets after dinner Christmas night. Still one of the best presents I ever got.

30 years ago this month, Def Leppard and Poison were on the charts and I remember being in attendance for the Jerry Lawler - Austin Idol hair vs. hair steel cage match at the Mid South Coliseum.

Fast forward to April 2017, I am (i.e. my wife is dragging me) going to see Def Leppard/Poison in concert and now I feel old.

With that as a background, what memorable Vol moment makes you feel old when you look back on the number of years ago that it happened.

Mine was cutting class in high school to go out to my truck to listen to Peyton's announcement as to whether or not he was coming back to school. I got caught by the principal but he listened to the announcement with me in my truck. Since Peyton stayed, I avoided punishment. That was slightly over 20 years ago.
In my best kid rock voice in Joe Dirt.... Def Leppard sucks.

Hey the older generation had it right imo. I'm 28 and like my music on an old record player(have a pretty good collection) give me Springsteen, The Stones, Bob Segar, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, and The Who any day over what's out now. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the Kings of Leon, Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr, and queens of the Stone Age, but give me that old school rock and roll any day. Plus way to much entitlement in my generation. People don't know how to work any more. Don't get me wrong I enjoy my smart phone lol but put em down every once in awhile. I grow my own garden and occasionally my own liquor too. It's something I'll pass down to my kids because if people my age don't it will be forgotten. Rock on old people.

Remember when bars on The Strip had nickel beer night? 🍻

I remember when the pizza joint on the strip (can't remember the name) had all-you-can-eat-and-drink night for $7. It was Beast, but we didn't care.

I also remember Spicy's on the strip all-you-can-eat wings night. I regularly topped 40.

This thread would make for a good country song....

Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when

And to make sure I cover all music, it was almost 25 years ago when I bought my first album with cuss words (The Chronic by Dr. Dre).
