Is anyone else afraid that possible SEC expansion could result in the loss of the Tennessee/Alabama rivalry?

It seems crazy, but if 2 teams joined the conference, it's possible that the SEC would drop the permanent cross division game.

Also, if two Big 12 teams joined, it seems possible that Auburn could move East and remain Alabama's permanent rival.

I'm not usually the one obsessing over tradition, but losing this rivalry would really suck.

Obviously Vols fans would hate it and Bama wouldn't like it either, but is there much the two teams could do about it?

I was just thinking about this. For different reasons though.

In the discussion about the Florida game, a Gator fan claimed Florida is the bigger rival to UT fans under 35. I stated I was 27, and I hate Alabama more. I hate Florida too, just not as much.

Then I started thinking how the game was the 3rd Saturday in October, and that got changed to the 4th.
I pondered how long it would be until they just changed it completely. I hope they never do, but I would bet someday they will.

I hate hearing about AM&Sooners joining the SEC... Honestly makes no sense to me... We have 12 teams, and we're the South Eastern conference not the SE&some west conference... AM and Sooners have no business being apart of the SEC and i don't think it would ruin any tradition if they did join. They just keep crying cause Texas has their own network... Im pretty sure AM&Sooners have money to make a network too...

Most of the 12 year olds wouldnt care but old salty dogs like me do not want to see us lose our historical rivalry with the Turd. If it happens, it happens but all I ask of the big wigs is to keep the 3rd saturday in Oct alive.

They need to put it back on the 3rd. Who changed it anyway.

tamu isn't worth losing this game
I absolutely agree, I just don't know Tennessee's opinion on the subject would matter.

If one team joined the West and another joined the East and the permanent game was dropped, I'd rather switch divisions with Auburn. They can play their big east rivals and we could play Bama.

they could always drop it to 1 rotating opponent from the other division which would make division games that much more important

the ut v bama game isnt what is used to be anyway. Lose to Bama now and its one loss. Lose to Fla and its essentially 2 losses as they go up due to hth. its easier to overcome any out of division loss than in division.

There's no way in Hades that Auburn and Alabama would drop the Iron Bowl. None. Not even for UT/Bama.

But does Slive, or whoever makes that decision, think so?

aTm and Oklahoma would mean more $$$$$$$$

I'd bet they think that the money is worth scratching one of the best rivalries in CFB.

Ahhhh, the youth.... If you grew up when I grew up your thinking would be different and you would be understanding of the 3SO.

I'd prefer that to losing the Bama rivalry, but it would suck to rarely play the other West teams.

I'm 20 and I'd be perfectly fine dropping the annual games with all our East rivals if that's what it took to play Bama every year.

The SEC is on top right now, it would be dumb to change while things are going so good. Bringing into two more teams would not make the SEC better. Good as is IMO, JMHO. TIFWIW

Has there been more talks about expansion? I haven't heard if there has been, or is this completely speculative?

Two thoughts.

Would love to see A&M get in.

Aint ever gonna lose the TN/al game. I would think the reining presidents at both schools would be fired if they even thought about signing off on that deal.
