Nathan Leacock out today along with Chas Nimrod and Kaleb Webb.

What is going on and should we be concerned or is this a way for us to free up spots for incoming transfers?

i doubt coaches are sweating those three, but i also doubt that Tennessee is going to be very aggressive in the portal this time around, even if that is contrary to what some people think

I don't think it's anything to be real concerned about. These guys just want to play, and they see that they probably won't much here. One thing about Heupel's offense is that he doesn't rotate receivers in much.

People panicked when we lost our secondary last year but it ended up being an upgrade. I will say our WR core has struggled at times this year.
And there is a reason why they didn’t see the field often. Doug Matthew’s said we would lose about 15 kids as the staff continues to evaluate the roster.

We don't have an "aggressive" need at this point in year four. But we could certainly use help at certain spots.

Leacock is a great physical talent. It sucks to lose him idk how he would have developed but he had a much higher ceiling than Webb or nimrod. I don’t think he was forced out but I think he wasn’t climbing up the depth chart quickly enough. On3 had him as a top 50 player and the #6 wr 247 had him at #13. And those don’t always pan out but it’s just sad considering he’s one of the most physically gifted prospects we’ve had but I think he came in with a lot to work on with routes and technique.

I agree with this one. Nimrod kind of stunk too but I wasn't necessarily concerned until Leacock jumped in as well. All 3 just add up at this point. In this new system, players aren't going to wait on development but then again it also helps programs like Tennessee because we can go find players who have actual game day experience in the portal versus recruiting stars and hoping they turn into the player we want.

Tennessee STILL does NOT have a TRUE "Slot Receiver'...'Cept for Squirrel...who's "Questionable at Best" for next Saturday.

Need SPEED!!!!!!
Yeah Nimrod was really the only guy we lost that even moves the needle as far as a guy that can contribute even if he isn’t the first option. Hopefully Staley or someone is ready to go. Thornton can play slot also.

On topic Leacock wasn’t getting on the field unless it was a blow out. Made sense for him to move on.

If you were depending on Leacock anyways it was a huge issue.

Are these guys gone for the playoffs for sure or is the door open for them just in case we have Squirrel, McCoy and/or Thornton out for any significant time?

Short term short bench, but I think they are thrilled with the three WR signees plus the potential use of the versatile Morris in the slot some. Don’t think they are sweating it at all .

I think Leacock could have been a solid starter even if it wouldn’t have been until he was a redshirt junior. It doesn’t hurt you right now to lose him but it hurts you a year or two from now.

But I’m not Kelsey pope and idk how he was progressing. I did hear that he was showing improvement though.

omg, yes we do rotate WRs. you really have to stop with the ESPN lazy of a take about our offense.

the only issue with our offense is that we don't throw it that much, and when we do we typically have longer completions than even the top passing offenses.

We completed 10 or more passes to 5 of our wide receivers.
5 of the Top 10 passing offenses completed 10 or more passes to only 4 of their wide receivers.
2 others completed the same number, 5.
2 had 6 with 10 or more catches
1 had 8, and that was North Texas.

I am going to see if my thread from last year is still around that I can bump.
