I don't start a lot of threads anymore but I thought this topic was worth its own discussion...

In all of my years of following recruiting I'm not sure I've ever seen one class be so thoroughly defined by one player...and that player (IMO) was Tee Higgins...

Adding Higgins would have only bumped us to about #12 in the various rankings so it's not like we are suddenly top 5 with him...but there's more to it than just the ranking...we lost a 5 star can't miss talent out of back yard in a highly public fashion...and then to add insult to injury our 5 star WR leaves early for the draft...leaving a gaping hole that Higgins would have filled perfectly...

Maybe it's just me...maybe the rest of you see other significant holes that would still bother you even if we landed Higgins...but to me it's simply comes down to him...add him to this class and I'm celebrating a really good and perfectly acceptable NSD...losing him made this class below average and disappointing to me

Tee made SUCH a mistake going to a REAL Championship Program...

Passing up a possibility at a "Life Championship"!

This class is defined by Butch. A coach that the recruiting world has figured out can't develop elite talent.

And I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, *guts*. Why, this class has got more guts in it's little finger than most of us have in our large intestine, including the colon!

Really there are 27 signed yesterday that beg to differ. Also see Barnett, Sutton, Dobbs etc... all of who were 3* coming out!

Bye Felicia!

This class will build quality depth and produce several high impact stars. Period. It's a solid class. No reason for disappointment.

Barnett was a 4* and Dobbs was too by most recruiting services if memory serves me correctly.

And of those 27 signees, 23 of them are 3*. If you're excited about that then more power to ya, I am not

Oh look. Another life championship joke. That is really, really funny and original. Wait, no.....no it isn't. It is simply tired and stale. But, you do you, if it makes you feel better.

This is the mindset we have to get away from and is "apparently" the exact same mindset that got us into trouble this past year with Hurd. ONE Player does not define a class and ONE Player does not define a team. The minute you start having the mentality that the team or class is defined by one player your whole stock is in that person and you start catering to them no matter how it affects the other ten men on the field.

11 players all have to execute for a play to be successful its tough to get that when your focus is on one.

Y'all a bunch of star gazers. Jordan Matthews was 3 star going to Vandy. Where is he now? A pro player. Stars mean crap tbh.

So if we are going to use that Dobbs was a 4* on most sites as an argument for him to be a 4* I think this class has a different look then:

Trey Smith - 4*-5* on all sites
Maleik Gray - 4* on all sites
Ty Chandler - 4* on all sites
Terrell Bailey - 4* on Rivals
Riley Locklear - 4* on Rivals
Latrell Bumphus - 4* on Rivals
Will Ignot - 4* on all sites except Scout I think
Kivon Bennett - 4* on Rivals
Jordan Murphy - 4* on all sites I think
Eric Crosby - 4* on several sites
Cheyenne Labruzza - 4* on Scout
Shanon Reid - 4* on 247
Matt Butler - 4* on 247 Also a Parade AA
Princeton Fant - 4* on Rivals before injury

Without counting Fant I am seeing that 13 out of 27, right around half of this class is 4* or better based of multiple sites. There's a lot of talent in this class is just depends on the eyes of the talent evaluator.

Correct but all the naysayers like Dave Hooker and his ilk focus on the site with the lowest cumulative ranking which is the 247 composite ranking. They pretend that it is the end all be all and base their entire agenda around a site that is the "it" site now just like Rivals, Scout, and ESPN have been at one time or another. It is nothing more than one site's opinion about a handful of players.

I would beg to differ. I actually think LaBryan Ray was more important than Tee Higgins. You can throw a rock in the parking lot and hit a good receiver but game changing lineman don't grow on trees. Typically the game is won or lost in the trenches. There are only a few can't miss lineman out there. Alabama obviously thought enough of him to tell another Rivals 250 player that he will have to grey shirt because of not having enough scholarships.

Trey Smith is the number one player on ESPN, yet let's all focus on what the 247 Composite ranking is and shout it from the rooftops. When was the last time UT got the number one commit on any ranking system? Bryce Brown? Before him, too far back to even keep track of and he did next to nothing. It's a risk no matter who you follow and no one will know until 2-3 years from now for most players.

I am so tired of watching us sign 3 star athletes, when our competition is signing multiple 4 and 5 star football players. It all starts with the talent on the field, coaching can only do so much, but better athletes will always be where good football teams begin. Butch cannot get those athletes unless they are legacies, and he is missing on those now. Please let's get an AD that will get us a top level head coach!!!!

Barton Simmons of 247 loves our class said t was loaded with speed and that many in time after getting in Rock's weight program will be really good players here. I have studied the film and I have coached and trained Athletes at high school level for years and we did get many gems in this class. Yes there are some reaches as well but not as bad as some want to say.
