This class is sick - Get ready for a coming out party vs Oklahoma

So just to be clear, nobody is allowed to be excited about the upcoming players and season? Also nobody is allowed to be positive and think positively? Everyone is supposed to think negatively and expect us to be mediocre right?

There is no reason not to be excited about the class coming in. And I think positive thinking is good. I think we'll be in for a few surprises this year as well.

But we also have to be honest with ourselves. Just because we have one of the highest ranked classes we've had in years does not mean the team will suddenly be competing for a national championship. It's true we have some heavy hitters coming in, but we will be facing another tough schedule. And these players will need some time to get into the groove and come together as a team.

There is a good reason to be excited, absolutely. But making grandiose claims about beating a team with 19 returning starters that is already forecast to be the Big 12 camps is a little much.

This post makes too much sense.

Our team and fan base had adopted an attitude of thinking that we cannot win these types of games. We circle them as automatic losses on our calendars. Butch is trying to change that attitude within his team and get them to start believing again in themselves and thinking we can compete with anyone in the country. I wish our fan base would adopt the same philosophy.

So just to be clear, nobody is allowed to be realistic about the upcoming season? And nobody is allowed to be realistic and think realistically? Everyone is supposed to be a giant sunshine pumper and expect us to beat teams like OK "soundly" and make ridiculous predictions?

I'm with this guy and BOT

We take norman. They won't even see us coming, will still be high from beating bama and will think their win is in the bag

So the 3rd string QB who has zero game experience is going to have a field day against a top 15 Oklahoma team? Hot dog.

This is where I'm at. Sure, all logic points to the team struggling with the challenging schedule, overall young players etc. etc. But, eff logic. Our boys need to believe in themselves and that comes from the fans believing in them. But this fanbase is snake bitten and continues to embrace the suck instead of looking forward to a promising future. When the boys rolled out in the gray unis for South Carolina they had 100K+ fans in the stands and 2-3X that watching at home believing they could win, and they pulled it off.

I'm as logical and reasonable as anyone, and I've developed as many teams and units as anyone on the board. I understand there is no logical argument anyone can make to guarantee a win against Oklahoma, Bama or anyone else. I also understand people have a hard time handling the disappointment they feel after a loss, so they have to argue for why we are going to lose and then rest in the fact they were right. I also think many of our fans are afraid of feeling positive after big win because they believe it probably won't last long. These are coping mechanisms, but unfortunately, they are self fulfilling prophesies.

Just remember, logic doesn't always win or lose games, and a loss will not be the end of your existence. You can handle the disappointment without having permanent damage to your psyche. So, stop embracing the suck and start believing.

Rant over, go ahead and lay out all the reasons why I'm delusional and idiotic and have a nice day.

Don't forget the backup RB and zero starts on either line.

After the Utah State he will have had experience...and 632 career passing yards and 6 touchdowns...and a future endorsement deal for e-cigarettes :)...edit: responded to wrong quote :hi:

Correct. Preach it all you want but when you don't even show up to compete in some games and get beaten by Vandy then you are going to have to change that to win people over.

I think most of us here were where these folks think we should be after the UGA and USCe game. The team showed up and played with heart. They looked well coached and prepared. Then.... Bama, Mizzou, AU, and Vandy.

Trust is earned... not given.

I had a dream last nite that Hendrix came in off the bench against the Sooners and there coach Boob Stops and he got like 5 sacks and we beat them by 31. Boom! GBO! VFL!!!

You really think Bama wanted to be there? It was 3 peat or nothing.

So you think motivation was a bigger factor in a BCS bowl game against a ranked opponent than against a UT team with "no talent" according to many of you? A UT team that Saban had never lost to at Bama?

Same staff that beat the #4 ranked team in the final polls.

And was blown out 4 times... and almost lost to a middling Sun Belt team.

It would be FAR easier to argue that USCe was a fluke than the 5 bad losses and one bad win were flukes from a coaching quality perspective.

Those of us who are taking a critical approach want the coaches to be great every bit as much as those who ignore negatives and give unearned trust/respect. But they still have to prove they are SEC caliber coaches. The recruiting looks good. Their competitiveness against top shelf coaching staffs did not.

Id love a win like Fulmers last win over Miami. Like 6-3 or something similar.

Butch is going to have this team frothing at the mouth when they play Oklahoma. You can feel the momentum slowly turning and by 9/13 this team will be ready to go out there and let loose.

Ferguson is finally going to be unleashed by this coaching staff - who should he throw TD's to?

North?
Malone?
Pig?

Hell, there's plenty to go around after Ferg has ran a couple in himself.

Oh wait,

let's not forget our 5* back Hurd who may want a couple and our newest commit, Mr. 'just torched the grass behind me' Scott.

This is going to feel like Vols vs. NCSU in the dome, except No Dooley, No Hangover, and nothing but sparks and momentum heading into UGA.

Don't forget Pearson he may be the next coming of Coradelle Patterson.
