I sympathize with the message but pray Tim James in not my next governor. On a previous run one of his cornerstone policies was a plan so that no citizen of the state was more than 30 minutes from a hunting area. His dad (Fob) was former governor.

He's only slightly better than Judge Roy "I'll put the 10 commandments in front of the courthouse no matter what the Alabama Supreme Court says" Moore. Of course he did this while being the Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice

Does that mean you're a Byrne supporter?

Interesting final 2. Shouldn't have to decide until November. Both should win their primaries.

I think so. I'll likely vote the R primary to prevent James or Moore from getting the nod. From that point on I'd probably be okay with either Davis or Byrne.

The AEAs opposition to Byrne makes me think he's probably a good choice :)

I had to take German to get into a better HS. Wouldn't trade it (since I work with Germans all the time now) but Spanish would have definitely helped. Actually a class in Spanglish would be even better
What are you doing that involves a lot of interaction with Germans? Just curious.
I've taken Spanish, but my dad taught me some German when I was younger, so I like both. :good!:

I don't get why people get so heated about this. If someone doesn't know how to communicate in social situations with the majority, then that just sucks for them.
People seem proud to be Americans, but unwilling to share it with others who may be a little different.

I don't get it either. Why do people care about this kind of thing?

Seems to me there are some awful insecure people out there that seek official government approval for what language they speak, what god they worship, and so on and so forth.

Not everyone in the world is like you--deal with it.

nobody gives a rat's ass, until it costs them needless and wasteful money. If they were free and carried their weight here, nobody would say anything.

Since it does cost money, the crime rates among illegals are enormous and it induces vote buying similar to the civil rights movement, people find it a problem.

I guess all that means I understand why.

Because it's inconvenient for our citizens... The government should do what's better for the citizens, not for illegal immigrants.

Also, think of all those European countries with official language. Does that make them more intolerant of others or prevent them from learning another language?

Once you've translated and printed the handbook and exams in the second language (which I assume AL has already done), what is the cost of printing an additional copy?

Not much.

I have a friend at church (which is now a legal citizen) who come from Russia. When he got here he was not given such satisfaction as having Russian everywhere he went. He speaks his english with a Russian twang now, and has no problem with it. He told me once that he deemed it as respect to the country that gave him a chance to better himself.

To bad others don't respect it that way.

America is a salad bowl, not a melting pot. I don't get why people get so heated about this. If someone doesn't know how to communicate in social situations with the majority, then that just sucks for them.
People seem proud to be Americans, but unwilling to share it with others who may be a little different. I'm a proud conservative, but it is a little disappointing to see so many people refuse to show patience with others.
My dad is one who gets furious when he sees directions (or anything) written in a place of business in english and spanish. Really?!! How does that affect you?

I agree with you pretty much 100% People just love to whine about something.

So do you get upset when pro-athletes from japan, korea etc., still interview in their native language?

Or does it only piss you off when poor hispanics speak it?

simple fact is, anything besides the status quo scares the living you know what out of these people.... people speaking another language effects them ZERO, yet they care so much. English is still everywhere, heaven forbid we have another language there, as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think people (permanently) living here should learn English, if for no other reason than to improve their quality of life.

But making a governor campaign issue out of that is dumb. I'm sure the state has bigger problems to deal with.
