This Is Alabama, We Speak English

So do you get upset when pro-athletes from japan, korea etc., still interview in their native language?

Or does it only piss you off when poor hispanics speak it?

HidekI (sp) Matsui has been here how long and can't speak a lick of English. It's pathetic that those guys make millions of dollars and are too lazy to learn english. To try to portray this as racism against Hispanics is a very weak argument.

Ah the race card - how easily it comes out.

I'm not a big "english only" person but to suggest it is racism or simply whining shows a lack of tolerance for view points other than one's own. (ironic).

Look at the issues with bi-lingual education programs, look at the associated costs, look at advancement opportunities. There are legit reasons why a single language should be highly encouraged.

Nah, just call it racism and feel superior.

No it's not. Matsui can speak English, he is just more comfortable speaking his native tongue.

For kids it's easier to learn how to read, write etc in their native language and then gradually learn English.

If you think this chump isn't doing this to pander to the racist loser in Alabama you are not being rational.

it is racism when the candidate is clearly doing it to appeal to bigoted candidates.

Fwiw I live in possibly the wealthiest and most conservative county in the nation and I am also republican but it's a global world now.

I respect my friend for his stance, it showed along with his actions that he respected his opportunity to learn our language, and be a citizen here. He also waited 9 years to get here. He did it the right way, unlike the poor criminals you speak of.

You live in Cali?

I think it leads to racism. I don't think the guy is racist, just there are bigger fish to fry.

I wouldn't call him a racist either. I always just have thought of him as Fob's idiot son and this just solidifies it.

It wasn't, he started from the time he was 12. This was after he lost both of his parents. He has some stories about his life in Russia, and the process of making it here. Makes you admire him for his efforts.

Always wanted to visit California, never gotten a chance.

Racism is too easy and too serious a charge to throw around as an argument.

It is a global world - as I said, I'm not an english only fan per se but I see legit arguments for it. Labeling it as bigoted or racist is a refusal to discuss the issue.

It's not refusal to discuss the issue, it's an opinion.

you'll learn this soon enough... If you have a different opinion from the main ones on here, either 1) you're stupid, 2)skirting the issue or 3) a sheep following the lead
