This sinner says no to Bobby Petrino - James Franklin? I'm being won over.

I think Franklin is a better coach than most on here would give him credit for. That being said, I think he's a huge prick and not nearly a proven enough winner for what we need right now.

I am not sure. Back to back bowls at Vanderbilt has to mean something. I think the guy is a douche, but we could do much worse. I think he could win here.

Franklin is having the season most of us thought UT would. After he beats us this weekend, they will go 9-4. That's right 9-4 at Vandy and 5-3 in the SEC. Pretty much exactly how I thought we would turn out this year.

I would throw money at Gruden and make him say no. Throw money at Gary Patterson and make him say no.

Then look at Jack Del Rio, James Franklin, Al Golden and 1-2 others.

I could care less if Franklin is the second coming of Saban, UT does not have to poach a Vanderbilt coach! Get a grip, yes we have been kicked in the nards the last 4 years but we can do so much better than a Vandy HC!

The day they hire Franklin is the day I switch my allegiance to Bama. I can't stand that guy. We already hired one tool for a coach and he bolted for Cal first chance he got.

I think he could win here too, and do better than Dooley has done. I just think we could do better. There are more proven options out there.

If you even consider doing that, you might as well go ahead and do it. A Tennessee Volunteer will never "switch" to the Criminal Tide.

Franklin is not a great coach. We are just looking through the Dooley lens so Franklin looks great, when in reality, he's more talk than substance.

I hate to admit it and I wouldnt have a year ago, but James Franklin would be a nice fit.
young
good recruiter

Forget the morality for a second. Petrino bailed midseason two jobs ago and created LEGAL issues for his last employer. Who in their right mind looks at an employment record like that and thinks that makes for a job candidate?

I feel about Franklin like UK fans felt about Pearl. They coldn't stand him, because he brought fire to the rivalry and was a colorful and popular personality. However, all UK fans I knew would have taken him in a heartbeat before they hired Gillispie and if Cal wasnt an option. I am that way about Franklin. We dont like him, but if he were our guy we would, just as most did with Kiffin. Franklin can coach, appeal to the fanbase, and recruit. He has Vanderbilt putting $$ into football. It's insane.

With that said, I dont see UT pursuing a division rival's coach, I don't see him taking that job either. What I think the biggest danger would be is that he would use a UT offer to flaunt to recruits and make a big deal about turning us down. If UT were to hire him, I would be on board and would despise chuckle when he goes after Muschamp like he did Dooley and like Kiffin did Meyer. He does seem to be w hiny baby when he loses and other teams celebrate a win, which is annoying even if he was our guy

I can't believe this! Petrino is a POS. He screwed Atlanta and Arkansas. He has no loyalty to anyone other than himself. If UT hires this guy,I hope they lose every game,oh,wait, they're doing that NOW.

Yea OP talks about integrity and compares Franklin to BP. Contradictory. Plus Franklin is just a douche.

This is a fair response and I suspected someone might make it after I re-read what I posted. Let me clarify that the comparison between Franklin and Pearl that I have heard is relative to their personalities. Their enthusiasm and charisma.

How come so many loved it in Bruce Pearl and yet hate it in Franklin? Cause he's at Vanderbilt? So what. This is business.

Bear Bryant was an assistant at Vanderbilt at one time and then he coached at Kentucky and Texas A&M. I don't hear a lot about all those schools when they talk about all of 'Bama's national championships.

I'm not saying Franklin is the next Bear Bryant but when you do what that man has done at Vanderbilt - yes lowly Vanderbilt - then it's worth noting. I've been watching the Vanderbilt formula of new coach + hope = losing far too long to know that there is something very different about this dude.

I've appreciated all the varying comments and differences of opinions though. Gives us something to do while we wait to see what happens.
