Thompson Boling Arena at Food City Center

I believe that stadium is owned by Los Angeles and USC signed a 99 year lease.

With a quick search, the LA Memorial Coliseum is jointly owned by LA, the county, and the state of California. USC is the stadium's operator and cut the deal. It was announced by USC's President.

Upon further investigation, UK negotiated the naming rights for the entire complex in their newest contract signed in 2018. However, when they sold the naming rights to Central Bank, they had to pay $750k to LFUCG. Additionally, they pay LFUCG $1.9 million/yr to use the facility. They also pay $4.75 million/yr for the media rights.

So, they pay $6.65 million to lease the facility, and the $1.35 million for naming rights after the $750k penalty leaves them with a $4.3 million lease liability, annually, to use Rupp Arena.
Not sure what that has to do with my post?! You don’t think UK had to agree for that to be done?

The ODome being more well-known than TBA is extremely debatable. Despite a more recent facelift, it's even less attractive than TBA, both inside and out, to be honest. It looks like a stormtroopers helmet. It is on campus, and a more appropriate comparison for our current discussion. It has been called Exactech Arena since 2016.
Outside of Knoxville I would venture to guess it’s more well known, especially when you consider the multiple national championships they’ve won not all that long ago.

I’d be surprised. When people talk about the top arenas in the league it’s always BWA/Rupp/TBA and now Neville arena.

This is absolutely pathetic and now Tennessee fans basically have no ground to stand on when making fun of Kroger Field. $20 million over 10 years doesn’t even sound that big. You couldn’t get $2 million a year from any other company??? Gross.

Rupp got $1.4M per year over 15 years. So Tennessee got a better deal than the greatest tradition in college basketball.

Does anyone have a link to renderings of what the outside will look like? Sorry if it's already been posted.

Pearl’s sweaty suit made the O’Dome famous. It’s attached to their swimming facility which raises the humidity and it stinks of chlorine.

In your rush to get immediately defensive, you clearly have missed the fact that I softened my stance on UK's rights under their new lease agreement signed in 2018.

They now have the rights to marketing ALL THE NAMING RIGHTS of the center. THEY (UK) negotiated the re-naming of the complex to Central Bank Center and received the proceeds for it from Central Bank. In order to do so, they did have to pay a $750k fee to make the change, which obviously reduces their total payout, but only fractionally.

The rest of my post was merely informational related to the total financial differences laid out in that lease agreement resulting from them playing in an off-campus facility that they do not own and operate versus TBA, which is on-campus and owned and operated by UTK.

Not sure why you just LOL a legitimate reply, but read the posts on this SEC Rant thread. Outside of the opening post (by a Florida fan), I don't see many rival fans clamoring for it to be ranked higher. Several comments about TBA, how nice it is, how it should be considered #1 or 2 in the SEC, etc.

SEC basketball arenas ranked

I think you're selling TBA's notoriety short. Florida's program may have reached a higher pinnacle in terms of success on the court, but I'm not sure that has made their arena more recognizable outside of Knoxville because they won two titles 17 years ago.

Honestly Pat Summitt alone probably makes it more recognizable.

Gotcha, so in theory given their payout to get naming rights they are actually making even less from this deal than what was originally stated?

Agree to disagree….I mingle with many CBB fans on a national scale, I think more of them know Tennessee as the Summitt rather than even TBA, Florida was named 7 years ago so this discussion is back tracking to that point as it’s no longer technically known as the O’Dome, that was my point. The O’Dome in 2016 was much more well known nationally than TBA is as of today, imo.

What’s your reply to Kentucky making less money and having actually chosen to sell the naming rights to Rupp?
One slight correction. UK didn't sell the naming rights to Rupp. They sold the naming rights to the Lexington Center, which is the name of the entire property encompassing the Hyatt Regency, Lexington Opera House, Triangle Park along with Rupp Arena. That entire complex is now known as Central Bank Center.

As part of the agreement, the name Rupp Arena for the actual arena area was guaranteed to stay in place.

Right, so Rupp, among other facilities as well.

Fair enough, we'll agree to disagree, although I at least provided some level of support to my belief. You offered a pretty flimsy flex in bold that lacks any substantiated support.

"On a national scale", that being outside the SEC footprint, I bet you 8 out 10 college basketball fans couldn't tell you the name of either arena, so it's a moot point.

Right, so Rupp, among other facilities as well.
Let's be clear, though. I don't believe they obtained the individual naming rights to all of the properties held within Central Bank Center. So, no, not "Rupp among other facilities".

They own the naming rights to the CBC. Rupp retains its name as part of the agreement, and I don't think it allows for "Mingua's Beef Jerky Opera House" or the "Ale-8 Triangle Park" as a part of it, either. Hyatt sure as heck isn't going to allow its hotel to be rebranded the Big Ass Fans Hyatt Regency.
