We potential have our PG of the future. 7 points, 7 assist, 2 rebounds on TWO turnovers in 23 mins. After the Florida game he could've folded and gone back to being a freshman who is just there, but to come out and get this offense going is great. He does the little things when it comes to passing.

Once his offense and confidence to shoot gets here he'll be a hell of a player. Congrats to Thompson.

Seven assists/2 turnovers, no bad shots.

Played great today. Big difference at the PG play.

A lot of good minutes from the bench tonight. But the bigs won it. The first 15 minutes was about as good as I've seen a Tennessee team play defense. 'Ol Miss has some offense and they just locked them down.

Played a solid all around game tonight. He also played solid minutes when we traveled to Wichita State. Like OP said, he will only get better.

His aggression early was the difference and the team fed off it a little. He took it to the hole twice off the dribble pretty quickly and he hasn't really done that much at all.

He has a high dribble, but he really knows how to shield the ball. Multiple times Ole Miss tried to pick pocket him and he beat them with his dribble.

Ball moves sooooo much better with Thompson at the point. He would have had 30 mins had it not been for foul trouble......

Enjoyed watching this game from start to finish. Haven't said that to many times this season. Feels refreshing

So you are telling me the point guard is supposed to be finding the open man, reversing the ball, breaking down the press, distributing it inside, penetrating and getting assists. Humm

Novel concept.

Agreed, Thompson is definitely something special. I feel like we should still use Antonio Barton as a 3 pt shooter. We should specifically screen for Antonio and try to get him open.

Thompson is a smart basketball player who can pass really well, has nice shot and is an asset at the end of games at the FT line. His size should give us mismatches in the future. He seems to do really well in a fast pace offense that likes to run.

I think one of his biggest weaknesses is his strength. He's gotta get stronger in the off-season. Looking forward to seeing him grow.

i believe he just needs to get the green light to shoot he has skills. and with his father being a coach i think the future is 3 more yrs.

Not a knock on Barton because I love the kid and was really pumping him up. However, I have made a few posts about his lack of assists and was told it's a result of our style, not Barton's fault. I found that hard to believe as the few minutes Thompson was getting he seemed to have just as many assists, but wasn't positive.

Last night however shows though, at least IMO, that that's simply not true. I don't think there was some major philosophical change that Martin implemented last night allowing his PG to rack up assists. For Thompson to tally 7 assists in just 23 minutes is very impressive, and a great sign moving forward IMO.

Barton hasn't played well and they haven't played as CM said they would.
DT looked great. Aggressive. It's also just one game and we didn't go ice cold. If Maymon hits his layups, jrich hits those 3's and Mcrae gets hot like they did, assists go up. Every 3 jrich hit had an assist just from the ball reversal or kickout. Maymon was pinning deep and finishing.
I like his play though. Not afraid to be wrong about what I thought Barton would bring and the style we would play. Some of that from me and some from CM summer comments. I didn't think he would look worse than at any time at Memphis though. Didn't see that coming. Though have to give credit as I think Barton's defense has been great. He doesn't seem to get lost or go into la la land, and has shown lateral quickness that has cut off pg one on one penetration that oftentimes led to trouble prior.

That was the most aggressive DT has played all season. And it was his best game. Not a coincidence. He pushed the ball up the floor better. He typically walks the ball up very nonchalantly. He took two open 3's that he would have turned down in earlier games. Needs to gain some weight so he will have some confidence to finish drives around the rim. Has great hands, and length, on defense but must move his feet better. That is why he got in foul trouble. His court vision and instincts passing the ball are tremendous. Offensive flow is so much better with an aggressive DT at PG.
