Thoughts on Josh Dobbs

He should enjoy his season with the Cardinals, it's probably his last hurrah.
He's accomplished something so many have only dreamed of.
Starting QB in the NFL.
Someone will pick him up if the Cardinals decide to go in a different direction. He has the perfect makeup for a back up QB in the NFL. Well respected by teammates, works hard, competent skills, positive attitude, etc.

I meant as a starter.
I'm sure he can be a 2/3 guy as long as he's happy with that.

I love Dobbs but I laugh at all this "he has never gotten a shot". Yeah, he has. 7 years in the NFL with 6 different teams, 2 of them twice. He's getting a chance to start becuase the Cardinals are tanking. He's done well enough but I seriously doubt any team out there is looking at home and thinking he'd make a great long term solution.

All this about playing for better teams, yeah, tons of QBs you could argue if they were given a better situation they'd do better.
1300+ yards passing at Arizona is a pretty decent showing for oneself though.

I think each year of the draft is different. Some years there are legit vacancies where teams are needing a QB and then some years teams draft a QB just for insurance like Pittsburg did with Josh. Big Ben was not going to be replaced unless he got injured. From the games I've seen of Josh, he's as good as Murray who he is subbing for

Ok so he’ll never be a HOFer. Gosh some of you assholes must be amazing at your job.

There’s 32 guys in the WORLD as starting QBs. Give the guy the credit & respect he deserves.
Settle down, Francis. I gave him credit but the problem is that they are always replacing the bottom 5-10 QBs. I'm just glad he's gonna stick around because I think he deserves it.

Media Talk is Kyler begins his return in week 10. Remains to be seen if he'll do any better with this supporting cast.

He had a big chance to impress this season--and I want to say that he played pretty decently in the first one or two games--especially in the first halves--but I think he and the offense have really struggled that last three games or so. He's just not putting up points, and he was not good the game before last.

From their media:

"Yesterday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks was the third straight game with Joshua Dobbs posting a passer rating not under 90, not under 80, but under 70, so why is he still being trusted to throw the ball 30-plus times per game? At this point, Dobbs is only hurting the Arizona Cardinals, especially with the running game still going strong.

Yesterday afternoon, the Cardinals had Joshua Dobbs drop back to pass at least 37 times, where he completed 19 out of 33 passes, plus the four times he was sacked. Dobbs also ran seven times for 43 yards and a touchdown, once again showing he can make more plays on the ground than through the air.

In a game that was closer than what the final score indicated, you have to ask yourself why Dobbs is still being trusted to throw the ball so many times. Running back Emari Demercado and receiver Rondale Moore were having good games, rushing for a combined 17 times for 82 yards, good for 4.82 yards per carry, so again, why are the Cards throwing the ball so much?"

Bryce Young was 24 out of 38 passes his last game. Is Bryce equal to Dobbs or is it just a matter of two good players on bad teams ?

Dobbs is clearly not a franchise QB. No fan in the NFL would be excited to have him as their starter. No shame in being a backup. He's one of the top 100 people at his job in the world. Then he has all the off the field greatness. Proud of him. Represents us well.
This is a great, informed post. Too many posters don't realize the NFL is the best of the best. He can be a solid backup for a team, but that is his ceiling.

It's been a long time since we've seen a former UT quarterback start in the NFL, so based on that alone it was fun to see Josh Dobbs finally get a shot. However, now that he's been given that shot, it seems like he was a backup for a reason. He's capable of making big plays, especially with his feet, but he also misses too many wide-open throws, including key deep ones, and throws under the sticks on 3rd down entirely too much. Now that his time as a starter is coming to an end in Arizona, I think he's done enough to stay in the league as a backup, but not enough for a starter role unless his team's QB1 is injured. What do you all think?
Like the rest of us, he needs to get a real job!

Young's a rookie learning the ropes. Dobbs is a vet. I'm not sure about Young's supporting cast, but Dobbs hasn't got much help. Spends too much time running for his life. I do think he'd improve though if they do like the article says and run more often.

7 years in the league. Isn't 10 years the magic number for pension purposes?

That's probably MLB though 😄
10 years is pension.

That's why my friends boy stayed one extra year. Played at a huge discount to get a only 1 year deal and the organization knew he was gone.

Dobbs is best in a play action system. When Conner was healthy he was playing great, this new running back is showing flashes, so they maybe able to do that again.

Doubt it, he was awfully good in college. Sometimes if there is nothing there to help you then you are stuck in a situation that you cannot overcome.
I think this is a case of the opposite happening. At Bama he was surrounded by talent that made him look better than he is.

Yes and all quarterbacks look better when surrounded by talent. That is my point. No supporting talent=hard to have succeed.

I am not an NFL expert, but I will be surprised if AZ suddenly starts winning games with KM. AZ's defense isn't very good if you ask me. SF 49ers basically dominated AZ. NTM, AZ doesn't have much of an offense either. JD is one of the bright spots this season.

I know there's not a lot of Titan love here, but they took him off free agency last year. A terrible fumble/ incomplete call and He could have been in the playoffs. I would rather have Dobbs than Willis as a titan backup. Whoever takes him is smart, certainly as a backup

I am very proud of Dobbs and happy to claim him as a Vol. Seriousness aside, if he throws short or wide all the time, do we really want him aiming for Mars? It’s pretty far.
