One thing last year showed us is that mobile quarterbacks could eat our lunch. Hopefully the off-season and the injection of talent will help change that, but until game day, that's still a problem for us in my book.
I'm no expert by far, but I was a bit nervous about this guy so watched some of his highlights from last year before the injury. Here are my thoughts.
1) He has an ok arm, nothing great. Long passes tend to float some and has a bit of a wind up, even on the short throws. Decent overall.
2) He has good...yes...you knew it was coming...presence in the pocket. Really feels the pressure and moves around well. We will certainly need to contain him.
3) I would say he has good speed, but not elite. Don't know his 40 time but I would rank Marshall from AU much more dangerous running than Keeton. Was surprised he didn't break more long runs, but he can pick up 5-10 in a hurry if you let him.
4) From what I watched they love to throw the slant on anything 3rd and more than 5 to go. Will be interested to see if that is true in our game. Hopefully we find that out early!
Overall, I'm not as worried about him as I was before watching the film. He can certainly beat you, but if we can contain him and make him throw it a lot, I like our chances of keeping them out of the end zone.
Our problem last year was lack of speed and poor tackling. Butch brought in speed; we will see about the tackling. Last night on Vol Calls Butch said the team was ready to get this game started. I trust Butch will have this team prepared. We just need to make it through the 1st quarter jitters and pull out the win in the second half.
The thing now is I dont worry about myself, but whenever Im watching a football game on TV or in person Im looking at hits and Im like, Wow, thats pretty close to their ACL, Keeton said. "Thats from experiencing what I did. I realize that you definitely can never predict when its going to be your last play so you have to play everything like it is your last.
great player
-10 months out on an ACL/MCL
same with his running backs
-New, smaller, inexperienced O Line protecting him
-decent weapons.
-never seen a knee injury be downplayed as much by the national media as this one.
-they are a lateral, rhythm passing team
doesnt run as much as people think. He usually only runs when he has to. More elusive than fast. Anxious to see how he bounces back from a knee injury when the live bullets come flying.
I watched his highlights and he looks very good. He is very elusive, but throws the ball really well with accuracy. It's going to be a challenge for us. Hopefully our updated, faster DL will be the difference in the game.
You likely watched him against similar talent. There is a difference.
Seems we have to be reminded of the difference between SEC talent and everyone else every year.
We don't lose these games. The last time was Montana, 3 regimes ago. History says we will roll....just ask Butch about what happened to his 10 win Cinci team.
He is a very good mid-major QB....not as good as we have faced against Cincinnati, NC State, or WKU however.
He will be forgotten on Monday. This game costs him $$ in the draft.
