Thoughts on Keeton

Let's be clear about a few things: their close losses came against teams that were not playing very well. Auburn in 2011 went 7-5 with no Gus Malzahn; fired Chizik that year. USC last year was dreadful on defense and only allowed 280 yards total offense to USU; fired Kiiffin after getting gashed by ASU the next week. Wisconsin had a very poor matchup athletically they are built for slow, grind it out football. Let's not get too carried away with their close losses. By the way, these occurred with a healthy, non injured Keeton and more talented team overall.

Exactly and well stated...Tried to post this exact thought earlier and could not get to the computer..

Nitpicking here big time but I don't think Glennon is a good comparison.

His mobility is limited at best so that dimension was out the window.

Point is taken but I just see the Keeton making some hellacious throws and not just against Sister Mary's School for the Deaf.

I'm not comparing him directly to Glennon....I am comparing the teams. It seems these mid-majors of late all have have 2 or 3 guys that were supposed to torch us on offense, or shut us down on defense. Even the substandard teams of the last 4 years have put that to rest in these type of games.

The comparison would be closest to the WKU or Cinci QB's. It's still not the comparison I was making.

He's ok, but no better than anyone else we play regularly.

From what I've seen, he makes some dangerous throws. He gets away with them a lot because of the subpar defensive backs he sees in most of his games. Our guys are probably more athletic then what he is used to.

There are 3 reasons we will win by at least 21...

1) we are one of the hungriest teams in all of football
2) we will torch their secondary
3) our lb's have enough speed to shut down keeton

Maggitt is gonna hit keeton so hard, usu's cheerleaders will have "get well soon" cards waiting in his locker at half time

We better not do that....I heard from a friend of a friend that Keeton's back up is twice as fast as him with a Bray arm and Clausen composure..:)

I really, REALLY want to believe 3 but when I start to talk myself into it I have visions of the O and W game where JRM was being outrun by Worley for a huge gain...

He is coming back from an torn ACL. He will not be as quick as he used to be. However this is a moot point. USU should not be in this game going into the 4th quarter. We have much better players than they do and team 118 are not gonna let some scrub team come in and embarrass them.

Keaton is not an SEC caliber QB. We play better QBs on a consistent basis in the SEC. Not much to worry about.

I for one am a little worried about Keaton. But I wonder who are these QBs we play on a consistent basis and how did that go for us. I'm tired of hearing all the hype about him also but I really don't think any one can count him out just because he is not in the s e c. If our defense does not come to play we could be in trouble. Just an old man's dribble

From what I've seen he is quick, elusive and going to give 110% each play. He can get rid of the ball fast and His accuracy ain't that bad, but I think he is a little over confident. When under pressure he forces a lot of tight windowed throws. Obviously he can run the ball and we'll need someone spying and containing him at all times. I believe he will throw a couple picks if we can put pressure on him

What you have seen of him was before he tore his acl. He is 10 months off acl surgery, his quickness and elusiveness will be significantly decreased.

This is not a Trap Game. Doesn't meet the Criteria for that. This is a season opener against a somewhat quality team, but it is not a Trap Game.

A "Trap Game" is a game that is played before or after a tough or rival opponent. Teams have a tendency to look past an opponent preparing for the following week's game, or have a letdown after beating a tough or rival opponent.

Exactly!! I am not worried about this game at all. Arkansas St, is the trap game. Short week right before Oklahoma game.

I see us having a huge edge on Offense and Defense. Their timing with the WRs will be bad, They have no DBs over 6 foot. They have a good LB and DE. I would say we practiced against that all spring and summer.

The one thing they do is blitz a lot from a lot of angles. Hopefully that will allow quick passes to North and Croon that turn into quick TDs.

Key will be Worley getting the ball out of his hands quickly.

If Malzahn were still coaching Arky State then I would be a little more worried.

on Sunday. I am not a Negavol, but given the recent history of our defense, we struggle to contain quarterbacks. We are only one season removed from the worst defense in UT history!

Also, Keeton's numbers in big games are phenomenal.
2011 Auburn game: 21/30 213yards 0 INTs, along with 2 rushing TD's, lost by 4 points.
2012 Wisconsin: 2 TDs 0 Ints, 75 yards rushing, lost by 2 points
2013 USC 2 TDs 0 Ints, 179 yards, lost by 3 points.

You don't go from being a terrible defense to completely turning around in one year. Please somebody, give me some bit of EVIDENCE that we will be able to slow him down...
