Thursday's Practice 3/27

Makes you wonder about the coaching staff's ability to develop a QB. QB was a major weakness last year and all of these guys were highly rated coming out of high school.

I wouldn't go that far just yet. At this point I have to believe Mike B. and CBJ simply held back the offense last year due to it not fitting our huge o-line. Something tells me CBJ and Mike Baj. know who's going to be QB and are simply playing it out as if they don't to increase competition. I believe Dobbs or Riley will be starting with Worley being the back up. Riley has by far the best arm on the team, and Dobbs has the brain and legs on his side.

Our coaches are way too smart to give up anything this far in advance of game 1.

We may not know the starting QB until game 1 when he takes the field which would be a good thing.

You keep all 4 QB's working harder to learn more and get better all summer and fall camp if they all think they're still in the running to start and that's also smart coaching.

It seemks like all 4 are getting reps with all the WR's, RB's and TE's and that's smart too because all our O players will better know how each other plays and works.

God forbid a injury but all this practice with each other will make it much easier to adjust fast if a injury happens and we'll drop off our production alot less then.

I think they're coaching so that no matter who's in there, what package, ect it just keeps on rolling down the field and that's also smart coaching IMO.

It's way too early to worry about much of anything at this point and with so many that are so young we'll see alot more changes in the fall with all the new talent and youth stlil coming in.

Awesome. Another thread turned into a QB thread. I guess I know what to expect on here during the summer months......

What will it take for one of these dudes to simply step up and say I want to be the man....this is mine? Then show it on the field?

:dunno:

Someone will just have to hit receivers in stride and show he can throw competitions. Accuracy, strong arm, and deception. He must also read the defenses correctly. In other words, be the best QB.

I guess if one wants to be negative, one could always blame the coaches. That seems to be the most popular approach by some posters. I think the coaches are allowing all four QBs to have an opportunity to earn the job. QB play will be much better this year if for no other reason, the Receivers are much better this year than last year. I also expect the QBs to avoid injuries this tear and that all have improved over the off season.

Disagree .... you will start seeing separation soon . One or two of the qb's will start seeing the majority of the snaps . Either Butch or Bajakian alluded to as much yesterday . It is much more important to us that at least one of our qb's start getting first team reps . Who care if Utah St knows who our qb is . We damn sure know who their's is . Heck if it's Riley there is no film on him. Someone will come out of the O&W game as either the leader or possibly co-leader , you can take that to the bank .
We absolutely are not going into the first game with 3-4 guys getting equal reps.

Mike Bajakian reiterates after practice, when asked a couple different times, that there's been no separation among the four quarterbacks.

Wow, this could be some serious head-games going on here. What, start all four? One each quarter? :loco:

If you press Jason Croom you better have a plan or a prayer or you will get bench pressed.

Offense bounced back in a serious way today and competed. Some explosive play were made.

Emmanuel Mosley will be counted on big time. You can tell by the way he's being coached. He was fearless in one on one tackling vs WRs

Malik Foreman showed me something today. Still needs to be more consistent with focus but he WILL tackle In open space based on today.

I believe this is the season that Croom spells the doom of whoever goes goes up against him. Been waiting for the assessment Jayson gave. I think both Croom and North will end up being possession and red zone receivers while Pearson and Malone are our homerun hitters. Their backups will prove to let us continue the passing game with barely marginal drop off. of course it all depends on the OL's play, but if even adequate, we will be moving the hog hide consistently.

After sitting in on quarterback meetings Tuesday and then watching his team practice that afternoon, Jones did tell VolQuest.com that repetitions could become less evenly divided at the quarterback spot --- if a player's performance dictates as much.

"They're going to earn their reps, so if they start performing they'll earn their reps. If individuals are struggling a little bit, we're going to back off their reps," Jones exclusively told VolQuest.com. "Everything is earned in our program, so they're going to have to earn their repetitions."

It's coming and I would bet sooner than later

imagine the difficulty the defense is going to have switching between hurd, lane, and young. three completely different styles of backs

It's going to be Worley. If they're all approx. equal in ability and practice play, the tie-breaker will be experience. I hope these quarterbacks don't suck as bad as they seemed to last year and rather it was a combination of inexperience at both WR & QB, because we seriously need a relevant passing game to make it to the post-season.

To me in a perfect world someone would blow up in the O/W game be named starter and have all summer to make this his team. I know about competition being good and all but I think there is something to be said for a team knowing and being to prepare with their starter. JMO

Not much if anything will be taken away from the O/W game. However, I do think they have a starter going into the summer.

What if all 4 have gotten better at the same time? I think we're going through a lot of needless worry right now. It is spring practice.

This x 1,000,000. QB will definitely be better this year no matter who plays. That QB will also have many more dynamic weapons to play with at RB, TE and WR. Biggest question is obviously OL at this point.

Everybody's worrying way too much IMO at this point.

We've got 2 QB's here with experience under their belt in Worley and Dobbs. I believe we can win with Worley from what I saw last year. He'll have another year under his belt in this system by the start of the season. Dobbs also has experience and will have another year of improvements under his belt as well. Ferguson could be a star waiting to breakout. I don't feel that Peterman is in the conversation as much. I for one am excited to see what works out with the QB's. I think we've got some solid choices and better weapons for them to utilize. I'm more concerned with the O-line at this point. We may not have a superstar at QB yet, but if the O-line can hold up, we've got enough to get the ball to some playmakers.

Interesting QB discussion. I think all four QBs have developed and improved. They are being "coached up." We know that Ferguson has the strongest arm but the least experience. Worley and Dobbs carry the most experience into the spring. I think the coaches have a 4-deep list, but I doubt it's final at this point. It's definitely a key leading up to the O&W game. Last year, the one thing that stood out to me between Worley and Peterson was Worley's ability to read the defense and make his check downs. Can't wait to see how they all perform.
