Tiger has another cub..

the question is when though.

sure Watson lost his stroke and never won a major after he was 34, but on the other side, Nicklaus won the Masters at 46.

i don't think it's unreasonable to think that Tiger can win 5 more majors in the next 13-16 years.

I think only 5 would be an upset. He has more than that in him, but it all rests on that putter. His driving stinks. His irons are still otherworldly, but his putter is the truth.

It'll be interesting to see if a pain free knee helps his driver....

He claims his swing is dramatically different because he was avoiding putting pressure on the knee.

I think this could be great for the PGA. Did Kim and Villegas and perhaps Pady get enough confidence in his absence to not have their sphincters tighten up as tight as possible so that they can still play their best with Tiger roaming the course? We know that Phil (even with yesterday's 63) is never going to be Tiger's menace. Vijay is just as inconsistent, can one of the young guns step it up?

PS, I think DD was the guy to be Tiger's menace but Vertigo ruined him

Link? Cause I read a quote from him saying nothing has changed and he was excited to be putting pressure on his knee again without his bones moving. He did say he is always tinkering with his swing, but nothing major has changed.

Sounds like you did, too

i was just talking about this yesterday, with a buddy.

i'm in the middle. i think it helped the Ryder Cup team too. i think it's also been great that guys have been given their moment in the spotlight instead of talking about how Tiger blew it, why he's playing bad, etc.

the media coverage upon his return is going to be insufferable. i can't even imagine the attention he'll get at The Masters. i'm curious to see how having two children will affect his personality.

on the other side, he's the face of the game today. clearly him playing well is good for golf.

Villegas still has a long way to go to ever be put in a "Tiger rival" category. He will become much like Sergio with his short putting woes. In fact, I would take Sergio over Villegas on most days. Phil has been the only one who has come close and I would still take him over Paddy or Kim on most Sundays

Um...yes! And how dare you to suggest that someone may have not? Seriously, there is the tour with Tiger and then there is the tour without him. The latter looks more like the minor leagues than the big leagues.

Unbelievably uninformed statement. The PGA tour without Tiger is great.

there's a story here with Tiger overcoming more surgery, new kid and will his putter be the same. The day his putter starts the slide like Tom Watson's, he's a mere mortal. His has remained the best for a very long time and I'd bet it doesn't last forever.

The day is coming when he doesn't make the bombs and final curler he did at Torrey for US Open crowns.[/QUOTE]

No doubt about it, but it won't be until after he has surpassed Nicklaus' major win total, and then he might not EVER have a Tom Watson type fallout with his putter. The thing with Watson was he began to strike the ball better and then his putter faded. Tiger's mental strength will allow him to be a really good putter for a long time. He is an exceptional putter now, or has been up to this point.

. . . the best putter and the best scrambler.
that putter sure makes it look like he's the best chipper and pitcher. I don't really know if he is, but the putter slams the door better than everyone else, so the results are better.

There are probably guys who can manufacture the shots from gunk and around the greens, but there aren't any that can do that AND putt like Tiger. I think he is hands down the best short game player in the game and best iron player. He's an awful driver of the ball, but I'd pick the other two to be THE best at all day long.

Know who you are talking to before you call someone uninformed, ok?

I'm going on record as saying I am not uninformed about golf. Good, glad we got that covered!!

It is great for you, maybe because you don't like Tiger or you have other reasons, but almost any "expert" will tell you that the tour needs Tiger much more than Tiger needs the tour. For you to say the tour without him is great, is just ridiculous. It's good, but it is not great.

Case in point: the avg purse of a golf tournament before Tiger<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<after Tiger. And there aint' a damn player out there battling everyday that doesn't thank Tiger for it.

I love Tiger.

I agree with everything you are saying in this post. My beef was with the "PGA tour is a minor league without Tiger" statement. These guys are so good you can't imagine.

Tiger changed golf the way Arnold changed it. In many ways, much more.

Agree 100% on both points

I got off on my point a little bit. I am not down on the Tour. I think there are several unbelievable talents out there. Hell, they are all unbelievable talents who could play circles around every one of us.

My point is: not a single one of them has the appeal that Tiger has. He draws the crowds, he brings the $$$'s.

To say the tour is "great" without him, to me, is ridiculous. It's good, it's just not great.
