Sounds like we need to ban it like Trump wanted to do? Personally, I've never been to the site but only heard of it through newscasts. It's just another way to devalue our society and plunge us into depravity.

I hate the service. I feel like my IQ drops when someone mentions a new trend.

And thanks to just how many people have been suckered in, my kids lost a day of learning. Most middle and high schools in my county had 50%+ absent because of a viral TikTok threat. Hearing similar from friends in various parts of the country.

Threats of possible school shootings, bombings circulate on TikTok, prompting LAUSD and FBI response

Was completely overblown - but I get it, no one's going to take chances these days.

From their privacy policy:

“TikTok may transmit your data to its servers or data centers outside of the United States for storage and/or processing. Third parties with whom TikTok may share your data as described herein may be located outside of the United States.”

Yeah, l really wonder who they might be sharing data with outside the US?

Also this little gem:

“We may collect information about the images and audio that are a part of your User Content, such as identifying the objects and scenery that appear, the existence and location within an image of face and body features and attributes, the nature of the audio, and the text of the words spoken in your User Content. We may collect this information to enable special video effects, for content moderation, for demographic classification, for content and ad recommendations, and for other non-personally-identifying operations. We may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information as defined under US laws, such as faceprints and voiceprints, from your User Content. Where required by law, we will seek any required permissions from you prior to any such collection.”

I just can't wrap my head around parents so scared by TikTok that they didn't send their kids to school today, but aren't adult enough to take it off their kids phones.

Non sequitur. Just because people have an irrational fear of gun violence doesn't mean their kids are having a bad experience on tik tok.

What makes tiktok less questionable amongst that age group than phoned in bomb/shooting threats?

It's the media of its day. People will always take advantage. It's why these trends dont last, by the time people figure it out the next bs is out there.

Similar to what the MSM does. Everyone knows no one waits to actually fact check anything. So you post it, get tons of attention, then quietly walk it back later. Damage is already done, and because there is no follow up there is no outrage. There is no follow up because the next thing is already out there.

Happened before social media, social media just let's us all know how dumb the people are who we trust to vote for what's best for this country.
