Tim Banks contract extension

Very much a meh for me. He's not terrible but he's not great. He benefited from Garner and Inge this year IMO. But in the games that mattered most, he was outcoahced and outschemed. Did really well against mediocre offense though. But Here's to hoping our passing game improves significantly next year so we can outscore the really good teams we play.
Well that's the reason why you hire great coaches to recruit players that fit your scheme. What's a general without good Brigade Commanders? What's a CEO without a good BODs? He's a great DC. Hired because Heup new he could turn things around. Look at where our past DCs are at now. Janek is like a LB coach at Colorado St somewhere. Who would you be happy with? We probably couldn't do better than Banks man.

Ok, so who should we hire instead. Who’s your guy?

Kind of like our offense struggling when opponents were better than mediocre. CJH was correct when he talked about getting everyone in the right spot, doing the right things, consistently throughout a game. We lacked that most of the season and still made CFP and went 10-3. As talent improves, so will the results. But every person in this forum will want to fire CJH if he wins 10-11 games a year without a Natty. Agreed, championships are nice, but the past 20 years have taught me that good, respectable teams winning 9 plus games a season mean more than a Championship then falling by the wayside for a few years. Solid teams that consistently make CPF will find the acorn occasionally. Tim Banks defense is why we won 10 games this year. Without our D, we lose a couple more easily.

I mean I don't necessarily have "a guy", I'm just stating my opinion on Banks as a DC. I don't believe the same way most do on this board about him that he's an "elite" DC. Again, never said he was awful, and don't even necessarily say we should fire him. But I'm not sweating bullets like I have on losing other coaches in the past. It's just a meh, for me on keeping him. He's just an okay DC.

I do think, like I said in my previous post. The offense will have to be more explosive than it was this year, or we will lose to any team with a decent offensive coordinator, because it's been proven Banks will get outcoached in those games. The good thing is there are only about 3, maybe 4 games where we really have to turn it up offensively to win. The rest we could do exactly as we did this year and probably win by shutting down the mediocre offensive teams.

His defenses are proven to be good, but I’ve had my doubts about “the adjustments” during games where the defense is getting torched - like the Ohio state game. Also South Carolina in 22, Alabama 2nd half in 23, Missouri 23, and several other games.
The thing is.. sometimes you just get whipped, man. Luckily you can only point towards a few in the last few years.. and guess what? Halftime adjustments go both ways - the other team anticipates what you may do also… and sometimes you just don’t have the personnel to match what they are doing no matter what, unfortunately.

Banks has been a stud for us… would I like a corner blitz or something out of the norm every now and again? Sure… but we just made our projected worst unit a top 5 nationally unit… Thank you, Mr. Banks!

I’m not disappointed that he’s staying. I mean we could do far worse, but I think he needs to do a better job of in game adjustments, like we should’ve blitz more in games, especially when we were giving the quarterback all day to throw and the soft D and letting them have the 10 and 15 yard stuff over the middle, I’m sure some of that is needing better talent, I just hope our secondary can improve some more, we really got exposed on the backend from teams that are able to throw the ball

Absolutely, what I was sayin was that instead of his name just being floated out and rumored to other schools their was actual articles where those said schools missed on their top target which was Banks.

But yes I agree, it’s all part of the game now. Just wish it worked in the blue collar sector as well. I’d float my own name around to get raises.
As a paramedic of 30 years, I support this message.

Agree, Banks is just average at best

I wish everyone would knock off on the South Carolina game. USC jr literally had our sideline signals on that one. Offense AND defense.

All of them matter. We lose to Florida, Alabama, and maybe Oklahoma if the defense played poorly or even just OK. The UGA game mattered (and had the chance to play Ohio St) because we won those previous games.

Proving my point. We did look really good against averages offenses. OU was below average on offense and UF and Bama were definitely not world beaters. We also gave up 300+ yards through the air aganst Akransas...and lost. The point is, and it's fact, when going against better offensive coordinators Banks is just average and that's probably putting it nicely.

Ohio St has been torching everyone. In 23 player talent & lack of speed was a problem. Agree sometimes his game plans are not exactly genius….see GA game this year
Not Texas. They completely shut down Smith and their running game. That's what happens when you have lockdown corners and an elite front 7.
