Don’t forget how bad Carson Beck was the previous 2 games before playing Tennessee. Suddenly, he’s a Heisman-type performer against us.
It was also a must win for them, if they had lost to us, they were out of the playoffs. Them losing to Ole Piss the week before was the worst thing for the Vols.

And it was also first home game in over a month.. being comfortable and having clear communication makes miles of difference at the qb position.

Best defense in a couple of decades...huge extension!!

And recruiting is just now getting our flood of bluechips on the field in the next year or two.

We're just getting started.

Someone who will blitz when they need to. Against good offensive teams you can't rush 4 and give QB all day to throw
Fair but what do you do when those blitzes aren’t pressuring the QB? That’s what happened against UGA. It didn’t matter how many we brought or who we brought, they weren’t getting pressure.

Nah. I think his agent did his job on this. We've followed a lot coaching searches on here and this one never really felt like there was a chance he was leaving. It just didn't. Which tells me his name got floated by his agent so he could ink a new deal here.

I doubt Banks had to float his name around and manufacture interest. He's recognized as an elite DC by his peers and the sports community. He's a Broyles Finalist and the only DC at Tennessee to ever get make it to the finals. Golesh was only the second OC in school history.

The thing is.. sometimes you just get whipped, man. Luckily you can only point towards a few in the last few years.. and guess what? Halftime adjustments go both ways - the other team anticipates what you may do also… and sometimes you just don’t have the personnel to match what they are doing no matter what, unfortunately.

Banks has been a stud for us… would I like a corner blitz or something out of the norm every now and again? Sure… but we just made our projected worst unit a top 5 nationally unit… Thank you, Mr. Banks!

💯 Agree

The hate for Banks makes some of our fans delusional. Banks is a Broyles Finalist and recognized as 1 of the top 5 coordinators in the country. Banks, just like Golesh, was selected and nominated from thousands of other assistant coaches. A committee of their coaching peers, sports writer, NFL coaches, etc., all who understand football and the elements of coaching, looked at Banks body of work, compared it to other coaches in college football and decided Coach Banks is ELITE. But somehow that's triggering to our some in fanbase.
GBO! Glad to have our elite DC back!

Why only the previous two games(one of which he threw for 309 against Florida)? Why not the 278 yards 2TDs against Clemson or the 439 yards and 3 TDs @Alabama or the 459 yards and 3 TDs against Mississippi State or the 297 yards and 5 TDs against Georgia Tech? It wasn't just us that Beck performed well against.

It is difficult to successfully blitz when your LBs /Safties leave the middle wide open for quick slants and screens. most of the yardage we gave up was up the middle ofd th field. LBs and Safties are usually responsible for that coverage. We didn't have the coverage.

We had one of the best Defenses I've ever seen in Knoxville and Ive been watching TN football since the late 80s. Banks has improved as a playcaller each season. Dabo and Mario really wanted him so we should count ourselves lucky we retained him. Coaching stability has been one of the reasons we have climbed up and started playing with the big boys again.

If he was such a top notch DC there would already have been a smaller school, like USF with Golesh that would be beating his doors down with an offer.

Double edged sword. When you blitz you get into a lot of cover 0 or cover 1 looks unless you are zone blitzing. If you can’t cover a team 1on1 then blitzing must be perfect or you give up cheap scores. We like to blitz the Nickel and cover the back with a LB and it’s ugly

If I remember correctly, we tried that a couple times early and got torched so we stopped. Looking back at it, man they run a version of smash a million times and we had no answer. They hit the corner repeatedly and when we blitzed we just got checked down to death. They paired that with a lot of power pass protection which seemed to get the linebackers way out of position.
