Tim Banks lost us this game

He's been spectacular all season so I'll give him a pass but his inability to adjust to what Georgia was doing opening up those seam routes for Beck is what lost us this game. Our dline played well against the run. But we got picked apart in the pass game on the same play over and over again.

Also Kirby has Huepel's number on offense. Nico, Sampson, and Squirrel balled out. But the coaches didn't help them.

Huepel and the coaching staff are gonna have to own this loss.
Thank God you gave him a "pass". I was worried for a minute

Nico balled out?? You better go check the stats 167 yards passing and no TD’s is NOT balling out.

I agree . . . Somewhat.

But the offense didn’t score in the second half and has been bad for a long time.

OP is right. But, for those of you who missed the Majors and Fulmer years, sticking with a game plan that clearly isn't working is a Tennessee tradition. I will say, though, that Majors would usually come around half way through the 4th and Fulmer would adjust late in the 3rd. Riding it all the way to the end is a new twist.

Without drops he’s over 200 yards as a freshman in Athens with a struggling oline. Ball out may be too strong, but he played well enough to win the game. No mistakes. Several 3rd down passes and runs to extend drives.

Georgia's tight ends destroyed the defense,

We have NO receiver that stretches the field.

One thing is true, Banks did absolutely nothing to get any pressure on Beck tonight.

He had as long as he wanted to take back there if a 4 man rush couldn't get him.
This 100%

Give Nico the time in the pocket Beck got and he’s throwing it all over the place. Just like Beck did to us.

I thought he played great given the circumstances. He put us in position to win if the defense doesn't allow Georgia to march up and down the field at will the entire second half.

Nico actually played well. Was very accurate with the ball most of the night. 2 out of 3 of his misses were when Thornton dropped the 30yd gain that hit him in both hands, and when Thornton broke stride on the deep post down the sideline so he could push/pull/talk junk to the corner next to him. If he ran full speed all the way, he catches that ball for a huge TD.

Nico also had several BIG runs to get 1st downs...and he was running for his life most of the time when in 11 personnel (3WR) but handled it well. Wish that CJH would just stick to mostly 12 personnel (2TEs) set...it is ojur most productive offense running AND passing the ball .

I agree with you he showed great poise on the road and I think his future is bright but balling out is 100% too strong of a statement.

He never dialed up a blitz that got to Beck. Period. Beck’s a head case and we didn’t even try to rock him.

Our front 4 couldn’t get pressure. When we tried to blitz, they picked it up. Therefore, we lost. That’s the truth.

Now… why were they able to pick it up? I don’t know without rewatching but the answer to that question says a lot. Were our blitzes so simple that UGA’s 4th string RB wasn’t tested in pass protection or was UGA’s 4th string RB so smart and so well coached that he was able to handle anything we threw at him? I don’t know yet.

When adjustments were made to blitz it honestly just same to late and was more predictable. Blitzes work best when they’re sprinkled in and unpredictable. We only started blitzing out of desperation and that’s not gonna work lol

He played ok. Are overthrows not mistakes?

Did we ever blitz more than 1 man? I don’t think we did.

I will say him going to a 4-3-4 and putting another linebacker out there was head scratching. And refusing to change when you’re getting beat over n over. Banks deserves some criticism after this one.
