Time to bring Nikki Caldwell home?

The job of the coach is to teach discipline, passing skills, decision making and to know when to pull an out of control player out of the game (Megan Simmons) To allow her to continue to charge up and down with no particular purpose is outrageous. To allow the players to stand around looking like they didn't know where they were is outrageous. The job of the coach is to motivate and teach and Holly isn't doing that. To allow the talent this team has to lose to one player on the other team today is just unbelievable. How can anybody think this is acceptable. It is humiliating!!! It isn't time for Nikki Caldwell, but it is time for someone new.

CHW did pull Simmons when she got out of control to start the second half. When she came back in, she nearly single handedly willed Tennessee to the comeback.

No one but Simmons or Izzy wanted the ball in their hands in big moments once Ariel went down. Carter did well enough in Ariel's absence, but she has no offensive game. She made some lucky threes early in the early conference games, but she's clearly not a shooter.

Well you may as well have it in your mind to begin the fire Butch thread. Because 5 - 7 is a reality for next season.

New offensive line. Most likely a new q.b. New defensive line. Many, many, many freshmen playing at key positions.

Wins: (5) Chattanooga, Arkansas State, Kentucky, Vandy & Ole Miss

Losses: (7) Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, Utah State Oklahoma.

UF and Georgia are more likely toss ups -- Missouri has lost alot also but the game is at Neyland so that one could also be a win

Is this serious?

I get it. We didn't win a national championship, and Holly Warlick isn't Pat Summitt...but let me make something very, VERY clear. We're never going to see someone the caliber of Pat Summitt at UT ever again. The only person that even comes close to comparing to her is Geno Auriemma, and he's not leaving UConn unless it's for a chance to coach mens basketball. Pat Summitt is a one of a kind, and we're not going to find anyone who is going to mimic the success she had in her prime.

Holly Warlick is a damn good coach. About as good as you're going to realistically find. She's going to win a title or two at UT, and is going to retire being remembered as a great coach. An elite eight and sweet 16 loss is nothing to be ashamed of. Pat Summit lost in the Final Four twice, lost in the title game once, and the sweet sixteen once before capturing her first. And that was before she had to worry about competing with Geno.

Stop the overreacting, we've got a great coach who is going to lead us to a lot of wins, and you're stupid if you think we can find anything better.

Warlick is not even a good coach, much less a great one. Did you watch today's game? We were terrible. Did you see the first half? Did you watch last year's louisville game--a total collapse/panic mode by UT before the game was 8 minutes old? Like last year, we lost as soon as we played a good team. Did you see the Northwestern st. game to start this year's tourney--when we struggled to lead a 16 seed by 2 at the half? Warlick is WAY over her head. She is NOT a good coach, and her staff is not very good either. And let's be candid, the game had passed PS by in her last five or more years, too.

Caldwell is not the answer, either--she's not that good. We beat lsu twice this year, what does that tell you. Her team struggled a lot this year. We need a seriously good coach--someone smart and demanding.

UT win a national championship? We haven't been to the final four in six years, much less win a national title. Caldwell's team got beat by 25 today. Yea, that's who we want.

I can't believe people are blaming Simmons when she had twice as many points as the rest of the starters combined.

If you want to blame someone, you might want to start with Carter...or Burdick...or Graves.

or maybe the head coach???????

So you want your 10 minutes of fame by starting this crappy tread about another coaching change. Can we at least give her a chance? Holly has been a Vol more than half of her life. GTF otta here.

because she's been here for 30 years? That is precisely the problem!

Geno has been out recruiting everybody the last few years and had the most dominant teams. I dont think he is the beat coach. He has had the best players.

yes, he gets excellent players. But he's also a damn good coach. His teams PASS THE BALL MUCH BETTER than we do--and I first noticed that about 20 years ago, when we played Ct. when geno was in his first few years with that team. We had more talent and won that game--but it was easily noticeable how well they moved the ball compared to us. And 20 years later, that hasn't changed. We've been a terrible passing team for AGES--that's why our turnover number is always so high--and yet Warlick still doesn't get it.

I've read every post in this thread and haven't seen where anyone blamed Simmons for today's loss? It was pointed out she can be great when she's on, but has also hurt the team when she's off and shoots too much which is absolutely true. I don't think the post you're referring to was about today's game but rather her career in general. Just my take.

Give Holly 2 more years to see if she can get the Lady Vols to a Final 4. Lady Vols should have been a Final 4 if at least an lite 8 this year! They just didn't have the enthusiasm today. I don't think Holly can get into their case like Pat used to d. Some one needs to "put some fear" into this team. Motivation is the problem here or lack thereof! 29 wins is still not bad but sill not happy with today's result. Don't think the Lady Vols wanted this one bad enough!
How about bringing back Tyler Summit from Marquette as an assistant coach and have him be head coach in 3 years!:clapping:

Today's loss was a team effort everyone had a hand in that 21 turnovers and poor shooting. A team not ready to get it done and they didn't.

They tried to implement the Princeton Offense, but they seemed to go away from that.

It does hurt that Carter is not as good a passer as Ariel, and since she went down, they didn't have a true floor general.

They need some spies at UConn's passing drills, then bring them back to Knoxville ASAP!

Well, I can't disagree with that, but I think the problem is until this year with Harrison, she never had someone who wanted the ball in their hands. Even the two years she played with Shekinna, she should have been second fiddle, but Stricklen couldn't handle the responsibility. In some ways, Simmons was forced into the spot she's in because she's been surrounded by soft players (except for Glory, who wasn't exactly an automatic scorer).

Since the start of her junior year, her games of shooting Tennessee out of games were relatively rare. Unfortunately, one was Louisville last year, but to her credit she's not afraid to fail..which can't be said of her teammates the last four years.

forget his name now but another protege of Pat's is the women's coach at KY. He has done a lot with much less talent and his defense is better than ours; he just doesn't have the same level of talent. He would be much better than our current coach; sorry but the truth hurts. The question is do you want to stay loyal to her or do you want to win, that's the choice.

He's an asshat. Most don't want him here. I want to win but don't want a coach that seems to be teaching how to undercut players among other things.

And, we are winning, by the way. Did Mitchell's team surpass us somewhere this year that I'm unaware of?

Former LV Jodie Adams would be my choice over both Holly and Nicki.

We will never rule the nation year after year, one reason is the MOTHER OF WOMEN BASKETBALL IS GONE, but the main reason the top 20 players are going all over the nation unless you are U CONN, when Gino is gone they will take a step back.

I think Nikki could contend if at UT. UT is a powerhouse and LSU is not and never has been.

IF HOLLY IS SO DAMN GOOD THEN WHY WASN'T SHE EVER HIRED AWAY FROM UT? She inherited the job because she's Pat's pal!! That's all. She is a lifetime assistant and there is nothing wrong with that. Caldwell has much more head coaching experience than Holly and with the resources and support in Knoxville she could be a big time winner.

Sly fraudulently impersonating a coach. Realize that is a strong word but I honestly believe it, jmo.

Probably about 340 other coaches would love to have her record for the past two years. Good to see you're still following the LV's, Fiji.:hi:
