Time to bring Nikki Caldwell home?

and that surprises you ?

The score certainly does 26 points but what surprises me even more is that people keep bringing up Caldwell to be the coach of Tennessee when she hasn't been able to do anything in coaching anywhere else. She can't even recruit as good as Holly does and were gonna replace Holly with her that really surprises me when people keep posting this.

Do you all support a Lady Vols coaching change? I know LSU lost 3 times to the Lady Vols in close games. But it seems Caldwell is overachieving with the team she has.

I think sky is the limit with the resources at UT for her. I believe she could sustain a constant top 5 program at UT. We may be slip, slip, slipping away. Now may be the chance to get her and move forward.

Thoughts?
:lolabove: I don't follow the Lady Vols as much as some on here but that is hilarious! :eek:lol:

Fire a coach who is (56-14) in only two years as a Head Coach! (I wonder if Duke is going to fire Coach K for losing to Mercer?)

She Won the SEC regular season title in her first year and making it to the Elite 8. In her second season she wins the SEC Tournament making the the Sweet 16 all making that run with one Senior and without her starting point guard.

She signed one of the top recruiting classes in the country last year including the #1 player in the country and another (5-star) player Jannah Tucker who most thought even after signing to play at Tennessee would never step foot onto the "Summitt", she got her to enroll in school this winter. We have another great signing class coming in and still have a shot at signing the #1 player in this year's class.

Besides from what I gather Holly Warlick and Nikki Caldwell are best friends do you really think Caldwell would take the Tennessee job if they fired Holly?

I've said it once and I'll say it again Women's college basketball and the Women's Tournament is getting to be more like the Men's where any team can win on any given night. I think you will continue to see more and more higher seeds winning as we go forward over the next several years just as you now see on regular basis in the Men's Tournament.

in the country. The Warlick supporters seem to forget this when they tell us to cheer because we got to the sweet 16. Win the SEC? Who in the SEC has even two-thirds the talent we do? Only Kentucky comes even reasonably close. LSU was not that talented this year--I saw both of their games against UT. Getting to the Sweet 16 is NOTHING. We don't play anyone even halfway good in the first two rounds. We had a red-carpet path to the Final Four last year when Baylor got beat and came out and utterly choked against Louisville.

Yes, the game is far more competitive nowadays. All the more reason why you HAVE to have an excellent coach, not to mention the fact that UT is pretty much the gold standard in women's basketball--or used to be. And yet we have a totally middling, not-very-astute coach who doesn't think we need a timeout even as we are getting poleaxed by Maryland in the first 7 minutes of that game.

Warlick and her staff have done a pretty good job of recruiting--but they have certainly failed to show that they can develop a team that gets better over time. We do not get better--not individually or as a team.

Did Simmons become a better player in her four years at UT. I lover her passion--but the answer is no. Actually, to be fair, she might have gotten 10 percent better in four years, which wasn't nearly enough.

Has Graves gotten better? Nope. Has our offensive execution--bad for years--gotten better? Nope. Assist-to-turnover ratio? Nope. Man defense? Nope. In-game strategy: We clearly needed 24 minutes of play out of Russell to compete with a physical Maryland team that was abusing our front line, and some offensive contribution. We got a meager 14 minutes of Russell PT and 1 shot/1 basket. That's the best our staff could do with the top prospect in the country? And yet we have people saying we need more talent.

We have a lot of good players but play too much ugly basketball--and that's a coaching issue.

In defense of Simmons, she was a world's difference between her sophomore and junior year. She tried to force everything her first two years; the last two years, she learned how to trust her teammates. She did go into kamikaze mode at times her last two years, but it was never when someone else had a hot hand. Usually, it was when Harrison was bottled up or the rest of the team was standing around hoping someone would do something.

I still question if the remaining Tennessee players can be considered "good players". They are athletic and/or tall, but outside of Harrison, I don't see that much skill consistently on display night in and night out. We know Bashaara can do it...she had it last year. Same with Massengale before she got hurt. But it's too soon to say for the underclassmen, and players like Jones and Burdick haven't improved so far on campus, so it's unlikely they will be difference makers.

That's delusional there is no way Nikki Caldwell would take the Tennessee job if her best friend is run off with back to back SEC titles in her first two years and deep runs in the NCAA tournament both seasons! :banghead2:

It is laughable if some think Nikki Caldwell Will help Tenn. She is a terrible coach at LSU.

I don't think coach worth a damn would come here under those conditions.

IF Tenn is to get a new coach they need to go out and get the best and if they best wont come then sit and wait. Jeff, the coach a Marist, WVas coach Mike, how bout some of the teams who have made the NCAAs sweet 16. I dont think Tenn needs to make a lateral move. If they cant get the best then stick with who they have. Hey Holly has won alot of games and she has a roster of top AAs. What Tenn needs is to be taught and disciplined team ball starting with defense. They need to get back to a tuffer OOC schedule too. UNC MD Duke WVa LVille are just a few who would be good additions. By doing this it will either get your players going...or get your players going.

I think some people may be looking for Pat Summitt, but a lot of us are looking for UT's Jimbo Fisher equivalent. The person to take it to the next level which by the way we haven't been playing at since the early 2000's excluding the Candace Parker era.

.

why would you exclude Candace Parker? just to try to make a point ? we can exclude a bunch of players for other teams and speculate on the what ifs,not that there is any reason to do that

all CHW has done is make it to the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 in 2 years as the head coach,Won the SEC Tourney, was named Coach of the Year, last year and didn't she win the SEC regular season last year ?

I do have to say, that is pretty damn good for a new head coach and being the Head Coach isn't the same as being an assistant,so it is a job well done CHW

I can't wait to see how the Lady Vols do next season,I'm sure there will be a lot of ups and downs, but I do love me some Lady Vols basketball

as all ways,Go Lady Vols :clapping:

Wouldn't that be a step down for Kara? The career path is from coach to TV star, not the other way around. Can't imagine she would be interested.

The real coaching change decision is just over the horizon.

I've read we will play LaTech next year (but haven't confirmed that). Nevertheless, you know Tyler Summitt will insist on the toughest schedule possible in his re-build of the Lady Techster program.

So expect over the next several years we will face LaTech annually. And any year they make the Tournament, the committee will be sure to put us in the same bracket, if only for the ratings.

If Tyler is successful in Ruston, how many "LaTech vs Tennessee" games do you think will be played before Tyler's girls win? Two? Three? Four? And what if that first win happens in Knoxville. At the end of that Lady Vol defeat, what percentage of the UT crowd may find themselves applauding "the name on the court?"

At that moment, the real coaching change soap opera begins.

I was such a supporter of Holly getting this job. Believe she has the basketball skills but not the "people"skills. She rattles the kids. In our Maryland game, there were 10 substitutions in 12 minutes, and 15 in 20 minutes. The team does fine until the coaches freak and change every minute. Play together, you say? They must be thinking, "Who's on the court with me this minute?" Next, the team is scared to death to shoot and miss. I have watched it all year. At the first of the year she pulled Simmons every time she missed and she got in a huge slump. Mid-year, she was encouraging and Simmons went wild. Then tournament time, and she got pulled. Same thing has happened to Carter, Russell and Graves. Odyssey Sims( Notre Dame) missed her first 6 shots in the game with Baylor. She was not benched. Shoni Schimmel started at 4 for 16. She was not benched. I heard on the news that Sylvia Hatchel told Diamond DeShields "you're my girl. I believe in you. Go get 'em.

The fact is except for Simmons our guards were horrible against MD. I believe Holly was just looking for a combo who would settle down.

UT will have new basketball coaches within the next 3 years, probaby for both teams. All depends on how Holly Warwick does the next 2-3 years. She needs good recruiting over that time frame and devoted and team players who want to win championships.
Candace Parker or Kara Lawson would be good candidates for the job.:good!::yes:

No I do what any good financial analyst does....we look for trends and if there is a short term aberration in the trend we point it out as I did with the Candace Parker years. So no I didn't have to exclude those years to make a point--the data does it for me.

I'm laughing at that silly statement. You clearly have NO IDEA what you are talking about. We won two games over bad teams this year--playing at home!--and lost the first game we played against a decent team. We could only manage a 2-point halftime lead against that powerhouse Northwestern State. Last year was the same: we won three games against weak competition--first two playing at home!--and lost the first game we played against a good competitor. We couldn't have asked for an easier path than we had last year to the final four and came out and totally imploded against a louisville team that has never won anything. Winning the SEC? Big whoop. Contrary to what the diehards/Warlick fans think, the conference isn't very good and we've been doing that for 30 years--that's not our standard. We basically lose now anytime we play a good team.

damn armchair, are you bitter that they have done pretty good since CHW has taken over ?I say she has done a pretty damn good job for a 2nd year head coach,is there a lot of room for improvement ? I do have to say hell yes,but I wouldn't say she has done a crappy job either

It is obvious that Mr. Expert, armchair, despises Holly as a coach. Keep posting one diatribe after another, armchair;
you have made your feelings abundantly clear.
