Time to Toss the Ugly Gray Uniforms

Should we drop the "Smokey" uniforms?

This thread is full of old people who can't accept that times change.

It may be hard to acknowledge because change is scary, but our lack of success has nothing to do with grey jerseys or rap being played at games.

The jerseys aren't going away, the DJ is staying, and women can vote now. Get over it.

lemme see. that means that Bama, Auburn, LSU, SoCal, Michigan, OSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Georgia, Florida (I could go on, but I suspect even you have gotten the point) haven't heard "...that times change". glad you told me.

listening to the pea brains ("it'll help our recruiting!"). its a gimmick. traditions aren't built on gimmicks.

No, they're not. However, unless they are from Tennessee, 18-19 year olds do not care about what we did in 1998 when they were 3-4 years old. We live in an instant gratification society where tradition is still acknowledged, but is balanced and weighed against the willingness to accept reasonable change. With that said, I think to a degree it is important to show young men interested in our program at the moment that we are changing our culture (ever so slightly) in order to carry on our tradition we pride ourselves on.

I believe players and recruits don't read so narrowly into the topic as some people here do. They look cool and it's new, so they want to wear it. The seniors would not have chosen to wear them if they thought it was that sacrilegious to not wear orange for their last game. It's just a jersey, win or lose.

Actually GA went to some ugly ass black unis didn't they?

Apparently we should wear clear since we haven't won in any color. The fact that over 60% of you believe that they are cursed should tell everyone something about the mental health of our fan base.

fyp

My god, whats wrong with you people?

6 of those 11 teams have worn alternates lol

We lost because we wore grey. (Childish) Grey isn't our color (actually it is stupid people). I never liked the grey anyway (sure you didn't). We are Orange and White..... (and grey). Tradition! (Uhhhhhh do some more research before you open your mouth) Nobody likes the grey uniform (except the coaches, players, recruits, and half the fan base)

Cause the UT website doesn't change every day means that it is an official color? You 100% certain they didn't add that color just to make the new uniforms acceptable?

And have you not seen the numerous posts on here saying that the only reason we beat USC in 09 was because they wore black? People truly believe that, but it is wrong when others say the uniforms were the cause for the loss?

We don't win because of a uniform just like we don't lose because of a uniform. Also I love orange and I love tradition, but all tradition starts somewhere. UT hasn't always played Rocky Top. The team hasn't always ran through a T, but I bet if you try to change those things people would yell about tradition. Those things had a start. Nobody is saying get rid of the orange but there's nothing wrong with adding the grey.

There have been plenty of people on here that have said to wear black all the time. And if you give a mouse a cookie...

There have very minuscule changes throughout our modern history, which is all that matters. That's the way it should be.

Why? Because you say so? That's subjective. What you think should be is different from what someone else thinks should be. Eventually change always comes because change is inevitable.

Yes, we don't accept mediocrity and we want to go back to the good old days when Vols were great and relevant. You have a problem with that?

Well stated. Today's team and many fans are all about themselves.

This has literally nothing to do with the color of the uniforms the team wears.

We got our asses kicked twice as bad last season wearing Orange and White.

I was not only commenting on uniforms. I was replying to the following which is about more than uniforms: "This thread is full of old people who can't accept that times change"
And I stand by that us old timers are actually more aware of how great UT used to be as we lived through that first hand (as opposed to heard about it second hand from parents). In my opinion our younger fans need to learn to appreciate people who came before them and made this place so special. So cosmetic change for the sake of change (i.e. changing team colors or even messing with Rocky Top which was brought up by some other dumb "fans" in other threads) destroys our values and traditions which is that last thing we need while we are going through crisis (by the way, Obama is doing the exact same type of damage to this great country).

There's nothing wrong with creating some new legacies to add to the tennessee tradition. The old days are gone and so are all of the great players and coaches we had, but traditions aren't static. They evolve and get added to as the years go by.

It's not as if our traditions have been unchanged for all of Vol History. You're just being biased towards the ones you've always known.

If fans had always been as hostile as you are to the small changes we've seen, then we never would have run through the T in the first place or started playing Rocky Top. We never would have adopted the Vol Walk or put up a rock for fans and students to paint. The term Vol For Life wouldn't exist. People wouldn't sailgate or eat at Gus's on gameday. We never would have painted the end zones checkerboard.

The coaching staff is just trying establish a team identity and legacy for the players who are now a part of the team. These guys are a decade and multiple losing seasons removed from the glory days of Fulmer. What's the harm in getting these kids to believe they can have their own legacy and bring new some new traditions to a proud program?

And political opinions aside, the Obama comment only adds credence to idea that you're just afraid of new things and have misplaced frustrations.

Only reason I liked the grey? The players liked it. They think it looks good. I didn't, but if they could win in them, and they were something original, I can deal with it.

However, I am losing count of how many teams are wearing grey alternates. So much for original. And we aren't winning in them, so now they are just butt ugly to me now.

In the past ten years, Tennessee is 1-0 in black, and 0-2 in smokey grey. Nuff said.

on The Sports Source show, this morning, they showed Texas A&M uniforms, which was the exact same template for UTs supposedly unique uniforms,to me it was just an excuse to sell T shirts, which they did

To summarize you are a liberal and I'm conservative (save both of us more typing and unnecessary back and forth since we will never agree on this or probably much else either).

Realizing that our political problems go farther than one politician doesn't make me a
Liberal. It is easier to blame the most visible person in the government than to look at the deeper issues plaguing our political system though.

I was just pointing out the parallel between that and your opinion on the jerseys. It's easier to blame something that stands out like uniforms than to honestly assess and analyze our situation from all angles.

Blaming all of our country's problems on one man is akin to blaming all of our football teams problems on new uniforms. Both show ignorance and a lack of ability to look beyond face value.

But of course hiding behind a veil of ignorance is easier than actually addressing any points I made.
