TN all time best

I love Houston but his peak was simply lower than either of those guys here. We played less games when they played vs Houston. Grunfeld played 27 fewer games, had they had the same number of games, Ernie outscores Houston, with a three-point line he does so by a significant margin. Ellis shooting 60 percent from the field for his career is insane. He went on to be the all-time leading NBA 3 point shooter during his career and shot over 40 percent from that range. He'd have been able to average probably 27-30 a game here with a three point line. Ellis and King are the only former Vols to ever average more than 25 points per game in the NBA for a season and both did it for multiple seasons.
You obviously weren’t around for the Ellis years as he was a post type player at UT and developed his long range shooting after college. Grant is somewhat following the same trajectory albeit not as prolific as Ellis.

fully legit top 5 I don't see anyone yet above them (but DK is arguing for a spot over Lofton and ZZ kinda fits because we need a PG). But, it needs some others thrown in. Slay, Fulky, ZZ, JJJ, Santi, Bone, DK, lets do a full roster of 12 if we are gonna do it those guys fit in. I PG is the one position we are short on because you have ZZ, Bone, Chandler, and Maze (in that order) 3 of those guys all happened in like 6-7 years recently... we are a PG-poor program.

Bobby Maze, JP Prince and Wayne Chism grinded the 2010 squad to one play away from a final four. Any all time team with either Maze or Chism is worthy

I was absolutely around for the Ellis years and he landed in the NBA with a deep 3 point line and shot 41 percent from deep as a rookie. Ellis could shoot from anywhere. He chose to work closer to the basket because why wouldn't he since it was 2 points no matter where he shot from? He was fast off the floor and killed people 15 feet and in.

You know GOAT, I use to watch the pro playoffs-they actually seemed to be trying. But I’m not like most College fans. I’m not as hung up on the Tournament as most fans are. Don’t get me wrong, l hurt every time we get knocked out of the tournament and would love a final four. But I enjoy UT basketball from November to March, not just a week or two in March. I know I’m in the minority.

Yeah, much like college football, the best part of the season is the game to game grind of the regular conference schedule, trying to win a conference title. The SEC tournament seems superfluous, and the one-and-done NCAA's are fun, but reward one hot shooting night and penalize one cold spell too much.

If I'm drafting an all-Vols team, in my lifetime (1971-), this is how I pick 'em, in order:

1. King
2. Ellis
3. Houston
4. The Wizard, my all-time fave, Tony White
5. Dalton
6. Grunfeld
7. Grant
8. Lofton
9. Tobias
10. Ron Slay
11. CJ Watson (I need a true PG for this team)
12. Dyron Nix
13. JRich
14. Isiah Victor
15. Marcus Haislip

I went with size by committee over a true center. I think every player I picked was drafted, but Lofton, Slay and of course, Knecht, yet

I’m glad you specified the date of 1971 forward; otherwise we’d be arguing about Ron Widby and A W Davis (the Rutledge Rifle) and maybe Tom Boerwinkle and Danny Schultz-a real PG.

I'm not sure it's a significant minority. I am right there with you, as I believe many others are who post here. The NCAA tourney is more significant to casual fans. I get it. Fun, competitive games. Wish they would make it best 2 of 3 from Sweet 16 through Final Four. Would make it more legitimate
You've said this ad nauseam, and I think you are very out of touch on that point. Very presumptive and at least a little condescending as well. Maybe it's just you who doesn't value the tournament as much as others.

And I will probably say it again. I wish we could get to a final four like everyone else.

If you don't like my posts, put me on ignore
