I'm not making judgements of his character or of his parents when I say this .... and of course, I will emphasize that it's not a big deal, and it will be quickly forgotten, as it should be :
If schools offered me scholarships to play a sport (and likely some NIL money with it), the last thing on my mind as I announced my decision of where to go, would be doing something to publicly disrespect the schools I wasn't choosing. I would still be appreciative of their interest, even if they weren't right for me. That would be true if they were a school in my current town or not.
Basically, I think the hat fake-out act is in poor taste ... albeit harmless. It's not a big deal for him to do it, but having said that, there is nothing wrong with being critical of him for it either.
Yeah, that's the problem I have with it. I wouldn't have liked it if Juan Gaston had done the same thing and picked Tennessee while faking out UGA, and he's not even technically from Athens. Just no sense in flaming the hometown fans who would otherwise probably like to see you succeed regardless of college choice. A stunt like that just makes you unlikable and puts a target on your back. Not a smart move on his part, or his family's to allow it.Not sure about the good kid part after that announcement video. What parent would let their child do that, especially when they live in the other team’s city.
There have been a few times that a recruit has chosen Tennessee after doing the hat fake out routine .... It still made me cringe. Why act as though you are bitter towards the schools you didn't choose? Weren't they offering you a scholarship and trying to help you? It's a bad look.Yeah, that's the problem I have with it. I wouldn't have liked it if Juan Gaston had done the same thing and picked Tennessee while faking out UGA, and he's not even technically from Athens. Not a good idea in today’s college athletics to risk burning bridges. Especially with the hometown team.I'm not making judgements of his character or of his parents when I say this .... and of course, I will emphasize that it's not a big deal, and it will be quickly forgotten, as it should be :

People are only mad because they see 4 star by his name. That’s the thing. Only to you all is this "burning a bridge".
To any reasonable person, who cares?
No .... You can determine his actions to be disrespectful without knowing anything about his status as a prospect. You can also be critical of someone's public actions, without "hating" on them. I would say this about anyone who has chosen Tennessee after the hat routine as well .....People are only mad because they see 4 star by his name.
I wish the kid best, but in February of 2026 I don't believe he was going to be a part of the class.
That's why I haven't really been interested in this thread. He did what was best for him
Imagine Virginia and Virginia tech and how they feel right now.
We signed
6'2 220 4.3 speed Cam Sheldon
6'1 210 4.3 speed Peyton Lewis
Both out of Virginia.
Those programs are starving for talent! And they miss on both of them?
This is not the same thing because we're getting almost everyone we want In-State and 5 stars in North Carolina and Top 100 players in Georgia lol.
There's no reason to hate on this kid. I don't understand how so many people can walk around like this ...
Sure.No .... You can determine his actions to be disrespectful without knowing anything about his status as a prospect. You can also be critical of someone's public actions, without "hating" on them. I would say this about anyone who has chosen Tennessee after the hat routine as well .....
There is no reason to act that way towards a school that has offered you a scholarship, money, and shown an interest in your future.
Right ..... and I think most Vol fans would be happy for him and express well-wishes his way .... except that when you do the hat fake out routine, it's like trying to shake the hand of someone who is flipping you off.Sure.
But not ONE person knows what position he would even play .
I have an idea.
He could have been respectful or pissed on the Tennessee hat for all I care.
Not everyone is raised right.
He's still going somewhere that he feels he can compete at .
He could have grown up in East Knoxville attending sermon every Sunday and 4 stars by his name and be a national honor society (not sure if that's still a thing or not lol) student, and nobody should be upset, because he I don't think he would have been a part of the class.
That's all I'm saying.
They probably don’t care specifically about this one incident but it can become one in a pattern of events that does cause them to care. Facts are this kid has played two years of high school football and has already transferred twice. Now he’s either intentionally or as a joke tried to make fun of the hometown school where his head coach coached at and multiple other coaches played at. Not to mention most of his teammates probably are UT fans. Not exactly the best way to win friends and influence people. My money says he doesn’t finish his high school career at Webb.Hahahaha I promise none of our coaches care.
If anyone involved with the program was that fragile about what a teenager does, we’d be in trouble.
Why do people say this? No, most of us probably wouldn't have. I don't like the hat fake out thing whether it goes for or against us, nor do I like any type of "fake out" commitment announcement. Tbh, I think it's kind of disrespectful to the school and coaches that likely put in genuine time and effort recruiting you. He’s a child. He’s bound to do some childish stuff.
If it was the other way around team wise you’d have loved it.
I don’t really care how you interpret "Good kid" or "what kind of parents".
It’s laughable behavior from adults. This mentality explains a lot about a lot.
Wish this kid the best. I always root for the local kids that go play big time D1, this Shavar. Everyone needs to relax on the hat fake out. It’s not a big deal. As a UT fan I’m not even a little insulted. Let the kid have his moment.
UT is headed places. We will be fine. GBO
Agreed to all that, Chris. There’s just no good reason to poke at schools you didn’t pick, even more so in this specific situation. We’ve got so many amazing, great kids in the locker room now, and this act does say more about the kid than many will acknowledge.Yeah, that's the problem I have with it. I wouldn't have liked it if Juan Gaston had done the same thing and picked Tennessee while faking out UGA, and he's not even technically from Athens.
