Hopefully, the Vols stay away. Kid has been at 3 different schools. He was at Dobyns Bennett, then his dad Gerald Sensabaugh made a big scene during basketball season. Gerald was stating the team wasn't ever going to win anything and they ended up winning state that year. His dad came up to the school taking down his picture from the football fieldhouse and just embarrassed himself. Gerald thought he deserved more influence because he was a former pro athlete. Went to Catholic last year and it seems like Gerald was still trying to have influence. Now they are at Ensworth.

Everyone in Northeast Tennessee knew they wouldn't last at Catholic and would end up in Nashville for Jaren's senior year because Gerald can't stop going places getting involved and causing problems.

Pass, I know his dad and Grandfather. They are very troubled.

Gerald left the NFL because the Cowboys wanted him to play special teams. He lost out of retirement because he is stubborn.

Grandfather robbed a store that he went to everyday and didn't expect them to know who he is because he had a mask on.

I can keep going about the family, but I will not. One side is a great family, but this one does not know how to act right.

Too much baggage

Don’t really care about his grandad and all that extraneous baggage. The kid shouldn’t be judged by the actions of his family that isn’t directly related to him. By all accounts, the kid is sharp in the classroom and a gifted athlete.

However, the Dad point is well taken. He seems inserted into his kids football career to an extreme. Being from the TRI, the trail of nonsense his dad left behind is well documented. I can’t imagine it being any different no matter where he commits. I think we need to trust the staff on this one either way, but it makes me nervous.

Be honest with yourself…

Do you want the kids Vanderbilt, Illinois, and WVU are fighting over? Or do you want the kids consistent top 25 teams are after?
Illinois just had a CB go 5th overall in the last NFL draft. They had a second one go 47th overall. they had another DB go 66th. they had another DB drafted in 2021 too.

If we are going to go after some smaller schools' recruits an Illinois target in the secondary seems like a pretty good place to start.

Cool but my question still stands.

I mean I agree with you in a perfect scenario. Right now I just want to get better players than we have currently on our team as far as secondary. Is this kid potentially better than what we have currently at DB?

Cincinnati had 2 CBs drafted in the first 3 rounds 2 years ago and one was a top 5 pick. They went to Cincinnati because it was their best offer. I wish Tennessee had offered them. Sauce Gardner is better than any CB Tennessee has had in over a decade.

You want the best players you can get, no matter who wants them. at some point its a judgement call by the coaches. They aren't using any recruiting service that the public has access too. so its all a matter of opinion.

and there are some schools that just seem to be better at certain positions than their ranking implies. Illinois's secondary last year. Wisconsin and O-Line. Iowa and a TE, DE, OL, heck just about everyone but WR and QB from Iowa, will end up pretty good. Alabama with RBs, I think Josh Jacobs was a 3 star when Bama got him.

and when should we care about what other schools think? Should we have waited on Leacock last year? he didn't have any offers early when we got him. plenty of busts in our history were recruited by other blue bloods. what other schools are doing is almost as subjective as recruiting services.

I didn’t read all that but I can tell by how many words you used you feel passionate about this. So okay you win! Give me Illinois recruiting class and lessssssss go!!!!!!

Odds are significantly higher that the more highly rated, more highly recruited kids would help Tennessee win.
You’d have a point if Tennessee was signing a class full of these kids. But they’re not.

If Tennessee signed Cole Strange out of Knoxville a few years ago, you and others with your mentality would’ve been upset because he was a 2*. He went to UTC, became a 1st round pick by Bekichick, started Game 1 as a rookie, and is now a multi millionaire. What a stupid decision that would have been for Tennessee to sign him because fans like you don’t approve, right?

Same for the Maryville kid who Tennessee ignored and won a NC at Clemson as starting Center. Same for Josh Jacobs. Y’all would’ve hated it. Y’all would’ve been wrong.

If the staff identifies a few of kids over the years and signs them, so be it. They’re not playing the odds by signing a class full of them. They’re identifying what they think are outliers based on their own evals.

Why reference the one anomaly in Cole Strange when you can point to all the mid ranked guys we did sign (that the staff all thought wiukd contribute) but hasn’t?

But I digress. Sure we can sign this kid and he may end up as the next Emmanuel Mosley - and if we do sign him I’ll certainly roof for that. But odds are significantly signficantly higher he ends up as the next Brandon Davis

Ultimately though right here right now it doesn’t matter. Some of you will cheerlead any and everything the team does. Cool.

Because it’s not about “odds.” We’re not throwing darts at a board blindfolded. It’s about our coaches’ evaluations. They might be wrong. But we have no reason to think they’re wrong or right. That’s why I asked for another poster’s evaluation…and he can’t give one.

So let’s all form opinions out of ignorance. Makes sense.

Why do you think our coaches evaluations are perfect and can’t miss? Look I get it this guy is an instate kid. But you just won’t see what’s staring right at you. We are recruiting at a pretty high level. If this class sticks as is our blue chip ratio is pretty good. Why do you think we are offering this guy?

I don’t. I’ve said MULTIPLE TIMES that we don’t know. I don’t know. So I’m not judging how good he is either way. Why do you impute statements to me that are the opposite of what I said?

I think they’re offering him (if they are truly extending a committable offer) because they like their evals and they think he can help the program. Same reason any kid gets an offer. Seems like a weird question. Unless you think they offer guys who they think suck.

UVA offered, they have connections to his cousin Coty.

Vanderbilt might be the best place for the kid. I heard all about his dad and the problems in the past. I do think his dad has an bad influence on the kid BUT I haven’t heard of anything at Ensworth. Clark Lea is friends with Roc and they both played at Vandy. The kid kinda reminds me of Rashaan Gaulden with his energy. Great when it’s controlled. Bad when it’s not.
