'24 TN DB Boo Carter (Tennessee)

If Heup thinks he is better on defense, then lets try him out there. If he ends up being a good defensive player then great. But the highlights that I’ve seen on here are all offensive highlights, no defensive highlights. That’s not to say he isn’t a good defensive player. But with the plays he is making on offense, it’s hard to not want him on offensw

Problem with the highlights is, in Week 1, McMinn County did not throw a single pass, they ran 4 variations on the exact same play out of the Wing T all night long. Also, Bradley’s run defense was not overly impressive in that game (actually kinda reminded me of that UT v. Georgia Tech game a few years ago). I was not at last nights game vs. Tyner, but from the sound of it, they (Tyner) weren’t doing much offensively. Here’s the thing, with what their run D has looked like in week 1 combined with the fact that they have definitely 2 and likely 3 Division 1 players in their secondary (Carter, Goree & Tito Williams) I would imagine most teams this year are going to be reluctant to put the ball in the air very much. That said, I wouldn’t expect too many defensive highlights. What I did see from both Carter and Goree in week 1 was some very solid tackling in the second level. That’s not gonna make many highlight reels though.

And true theory
No it isn't. That's a ridiculous notion and you know it. You're just stirring the pot. Both ideas can be true; that he could be successful at the collegiate level on defense and improve our team, and that he can be successful on offense and improve our team. Preferring to see him play one over the other doesn't make anyone a complainer.

Defense needs some help in the secondary, offense isn't desperate for WRs.

We signed 5 db’s in 2023 class and have 3 committed for the 2024 besides Boo Carter. I think we are fine in the secondary depth wise considering the only players that will be without eligibility is Burrell, McCollough and I think the BYU transfer. The rest of the listed “seniors” could return with their covid year. Meanwhile, at WR we have 8 scholarship guys and are likely losing 3-4 after this season, with only 2 committed at the moment. So, in my opinion, I feel like depth wise it would be better to put him at WR, especially considering the plays he has been making so far this year

I agree the defense needs playmakers and I'm not strongly opposed to Boo ending up there. But we potentially lose McCoy, Thornton, Keyton and currently only have Matthews and Staley committed. I'm just saying it isn't unreasonable to envision a scenario where BC might be equally as valuable on the offensive side of the ball.

Just like McCoy and Thornton, I highly expect this staff to cherry pick a transfer WR that they want to integrate into their system every year.

Last years’ WR class has disappeared from the face of the earth?

Saw where he is around 200lb and ran 4.39. His quickness and vision are also elite. Not sure I believe the 4.39 but he should be close to that. I will say that he has the cockiness needed to play DB, but man he is something with the ball in his hands.

Gone are the days when I worried if our coaches would properly utilize the talent on the roster.
This times 1 million! If I didn’t enjoy getting away from the real world, and being on this forum and kind of in a way making Internet friends (and legit friends I’ve met) that have been made here, I could peacefully walk away from here and not check on recruiting anymore. I know without a doubt we are in fantastic hands. Plus, to go thru the misery we have over the last 15 years, it’s fun to finally get to be on here and celebrate recruiting wins and wins on the field, so I want to take advantage of it.

Leacock will be a star. Webb and Nimrod are improvements vs Calloway and Holliday. Plus we seem to be a destination for portal guys each year.

You win by putting supreme athletes on D, capable of disrupting routes and hitting. Quick twitch/change of direction is the difference between a good D and what we showed vs Florida, Alabama, and S Carolina.
