'18 TN DE Emmitt Gooden (Tennessee signee)

I am 31 and can not remember the last time we weren't snake bitten in camp or early in the season. Last year, of course Trey Smith but camp was close to as healthy a camp as I can remember and then Kennedy tears his ACL at the beginning of the season. It's always someone on every team that suffers and injury but with Tennessee, it seems to always be someone who we are depending on. With depth issues over the last decade, every injury has been that much more detrimental. Its like a dam hole we cant get out of. Always a swift kick in the nutts right before the seaon.

Why do some posters act like season-ending injuries don't happen to every team in Fall practice? It's football, not chess club. I'm sure there will be a long list of injured projected starters (many out for the season) in the P5 conferences by the end of Fall camps.

I just don't understand this weird mentality when it comes to UT football.

I’m on record for not being a fan of some of Pruitt’s musical chairs with players and positions. Emerson and Harris were struggling in their first season and were redshirt bound. OL depth was dire (they had no idea if Kennedy would be available...or Trey) and they kicked the tires on the two as EMERGENCY options. Lost NOTHING developmentally.

If you think nothing was lost developmentally then you don’t believe in the importance of practice reps

Imo they moved them around because they weren’t excelling on the DL and have moved them back because of depth issues. JMO

Injuries happen, it's part of the game. That's why depth and player development is so important. Losing Gooden would be our first big loss so far this season. Many teams have lost 2-3+. It's not a UT thing. It's Football.

Get well soon, EG. Next man up!
I was wondering who was going to say this. There have already been reports of other schools losing players. It happens unfortunately. We also knew that we are building depth and not there yet. For the future success of our program this year is not about the number of wins but how we play and players develop. Of course the more wins the more we can get who we want. I plan on enjoying how we attack on both sides of the ball. Hate this for him, his teammates and coaches, and for us, but it is the next man up in football.

I remember when you intimated that Trey was going to suck because he went to his freakin PROM! Freshman All-American there football scientist! They got more than enough practice snaps BEFORE the OL work and afterwards...including throughout the season. Emerson was recovering from a devastating injury and Harris was raw...both needed further developing and that’s what they got. Go fret over long-snapping. 😴

I just took it as people disappointed that the injury list, often coincides with the "man, can't afford many injuries at that group" list.

Don't want to speak for them but guessing there's less consternation if it's one WR.
Do agree some are going a bit far though. This 5-7 guy is killing me 😅

Edit meant to respond to SAS

Sounds like Middleton was moved up to the rotation with the ones yesterday, and Williams just isn't conditioned to practice like Pruitt wants yet. We will be fine. Hope it's just a sprain though.

I’m sorry I don’t accept that Pruitt is targeting any different character kid that jones targeted.

They are some bad and some good in both groups.

The real difference is in how they are managed.

I’m sorry I just am not willing to see guys like Trey Smith, Calloway, JG, Chandler, Warrior, both Taylor’s, Bituli and so on be thrown into a group where posters say the head coach didn’t target high character guys. It’s really not fair at all to those kids
Bruin speaks truth here,

Things happen for a reason. We don’t know severity yet. If it is an acl, the positive is we would have him next season. The problem is we really need him this season but we probably would also really need him the next season for yr 3 Pruitt.
No one call me out, but year 3 is really looking to be pretty nice

Well, I for one wanted some unusual extra good luck this year and anything that helped our chances at showing out a year early, no matter how large or small the impact.

Peeps can want me to deny that, but I highly recommend against withholding your oxygen intake whilst in wait.

Jesse Simonton reporting he did have a knee injury in practice, feared to be lost for the season but team is still waiting on resuts.

I certainly don't take their word as gospel but I did notice during the two minute drill last night that Simonton referred to Gooden as far and away the best DL we have. Really placed some emphasis on that IIRC.

I don't know if that was his opinion based off of the 8 minutes of practice we see each day, or if that is what was relayed to him via a coach or graduate assistant etc.

Good news is we've heard press about everyone from Bumphus to Butler to Emerson etc all flashing. I give that a little more credence than I do if it was spring practice praise.

Plus they needed them on ol just so the rest of the team could have a full practice because we literally didn't have enough ol to practice.

I clearly understand this happens across the nation to starters on every team. My point was simply we usually lose a starter or 2 that we don't have someone close to their ability ready to be next man up. Its clearly a depth issue that Pruitt is working on fixing.

You remember wrong as usual.

I said Butch letting him go was a bad sign of how he managed his program. That’s when all this board defended butch in case you forgot that as well

It was lack of devotion on Trey’s part and Butch enabled it. I remember VERY WELL. 😎

The young kid made a selfish choice over football. A coach enabled him which showed exactly how loose a ship butch ran. I for one don’t hold selfish decisions kids make against them. They almost always do what their superiors allow them to get away with

The unable to practice list mile long under butch. Much much shorter under Pruitt . Similar reasons
