Norton says he is hearing the most from Georgia right now but Mississippi State, Alabama and Tennessee are pushing hard as of late as well.

Tennessee is one of the schools Norton specifically mentioned recruiting him as a defensive end, and early conversations have gone well with the new staff despite not yet meeting everyone.

“I am a huge fan of Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt because of all the successful defenses he has coached,” Norton said. “That makes a great impact on what I think of Tennessee. I haven’t had a chance to meet all of the new staff yet, but I am excited to meet them.”

“I am trying to make it to one of the junior days Tennessee has coming up,” Norton said. “I have basketball every weekend and playoffs coming up. I am planning to get up there once basketball is over with whether it is a junior day or if it is just to go hang out up there for a day.”

Being an in-state guy, Norton is feeling the pressure to stay at home in Tennessee. Recent Vol commit Jackson Lampley of Nashville has already started his recruiting push for Norton to join the 2019 class and a few family friends have as well.

“Jackson has been texting me trying to get me to come up there,” Norton said. “He is telling me all about the new coaching staff and how well they’re doing.

“I am definitely going to get up there soon. He has kind of influenced me to get up there and check it out. I have so many friends that are all die-hard Tennessee fans that are telling me to get up there.”

While Norton doesn’t have it listed as a deciding factor and welcomes the competition on the field, Tennessee’s playing time is intriguing along the defensive line.

“I kind of believe if I am working hard enough, I can get a decent amount of playing time wherever I decide to go,” Norton said. “Definitely Tennessee would be good to go to. Coach Pruitt told me they are losing a bunch of defensive lineman. If I choose to go to Tennessee, I would definitely get a bunch of playing time so that is huge.”

Cue UGA fan to tell us how he would get to play immediately because of how player-starved that team is.

Depends on which idiot Dawg fan you believe. One guy will tell you “losing 31 seniors means nothing and we’re loaded”, while the next guy says “we gotta figure out how to replace 15 (yes, 15) starters on defense”......all in the same thread.

Now wonder that defense was really good...they were able to disguise 15 on the field as only 11.

Buddy of mine from Atlanta is saying Norton is a Dawg and it could be soon. Anybody?

Some of the Georgia sites are suggesting that. Doesn't make sense to me for a Tennessee kid to commit to an out of state school until he meets the new Tennessee staff, and gives them a chance to recruit him. If anything, I would think he slows things down.

New article up on247. It's behind a pay wall, but the headline says we are "'Definitely' Back in the Running."

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Norton admitted his leader would “probably still be Georgia,” the team that has been at the top of his list for months, and it’s possible that he could be ready to announce his college decision as early as this spring. But with new Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt’s staff making him a high priority, he said the Vols are “definitely” back in the running, and he’s looking forward to spending time with them this weekend. “I think Coach Pruitt’s done an amazing job getting my interest and stuff again,” said Norton.

“They’ve been on me pretty good. I’m excited to get up there. Me and my mom and my dad, they’re all coming up there with me on Saturday, so it’s going to be good for all of us to actually talk to them in person and hang out with them for the day.”

“Coach Hoke, we were there for that ‘Orange Carpet Day,’” Norton said, referring to former Tennessee defensive line coach Brady Hoke. "We went there for, like, two hours and no one was really talking to us. We were just kind of walking around, doing our own thing. “And Coach Hoke didn’t even know that they offered me. He suggested that we get up for a camp, and maybe I could earn a scholarship, so that was not a fun time. After that happened, there was, like, a whole day planned, and we just kind of left.”

“(Pruitt) stopped by the school. As soon as he got hired, he came by and stuff,” Norton said. “I talk to him probably at least once a week, so we just kind of check in and stuff. And then I talk to Coach Rocker a good amount. He calls me about every other day, or texts me or whatever. “Coach Rocker, I know his history and stuff, from his coaching career and when he played, so I think he’s a great coach. I haven’t gotten to talk to him in person yet, but I’ve talked to him over the phone a bunch of times. I think he’s really going to do well for their program, as well as Coach Pruitt and all the defenses he’s coaches.”

“Coach Pruitt said he wanted to play me in a basketball game — in a pickup basketball — and, if he beat me, then I’d have to commit,” Norton said. “We were talking about basketball, and he was like, ‘You want to play some when you get here?’ I was like, ‘Sure, I don’t care.’ “He was like, ‘How about we play a game? If I beat you, then you have to commit. If you win, then you don’t have to do anything.’ I was like, ‘That’s something new. All right.’”

Norton said he plans to decide soon.

Let’s hope pruitt is good at basketball

Wasn't there something about the Bama staff playing pick-up games and Saban always wanting Pruitt on his team? He seems like he would be one of those guys who doesn't have much skill but is really effective because he plays physical and goes really hard all the time.

Or maybe he cashes deep 3’s in anyone’s face

Although I agree the former is more likely
