'19 TN DL Bill Norton

“Great day with the staff. Brought family and girlfriend up to Knoxville. Says UGA and TN are the top two because how each staff recruits him. Pruitt has made it clear to him how much he is wanted and needed here.”

Specifically one. I know guys from all 3. I’ve said before 3 sources, first being HS coaches-they love to gossip second being a few college coaches, one now being employed at UT now (you should be able to figure that one out) and lastly but probably biggest is I’m great friends with one of the major recruiting analysts. He trusts I won’t post stuff that I shouldn’t. :hi:

Honestly, the least trustworthy of the 3 is college coaches. Not because they are lying but more so being lied to. I can give multiple names where they told multiple coaches what they wanted to hear or actually told them they were committed. Derrick Brown comes to mind, Kyle Davis comes to mind, seems to be a theme with AU, they apparently like their prospects to ‘silently commit’ to other programs only to leave them high and dry. Gabe Wright ring a bell? Uh-huh. Keep that one in mind if it’s an UT vs AU battle.

Anyway, as posts for years acclaim, I like to see these guys do well. For some, it really is their only ticket, their lottery ticket if you will. I do try to give my honest take regardless of affiliation. I’ve mentioned many on here that was favorable to UT.

Some have said I have spent too much time here, probably true, but I read most boards in the SEC. Not much to during a chemo IV drip, passes the time. So, if I’ve annoyed anyone, apologies. I’ve always tried to bring info, good info, anytime I have it. :hi:

God bless you with that chemo!

Should we read between the lines here with Wanye Morris or am I reading too much into that?

What he did here is all I care about

I think with him and Shoop hating each other as much as they did was a huge issue too. Don't know why the hate between them but it definitely hurt everything involved on the defensive side of the ball.

Just hate it is Auburn we are against. You can say you will not take a silent with commit with them the other team involved because of what they do which is have guys do it on purpose and really being committed to Auburn. You get left holding the bag and perhaps concentrate on other areas thinking you are good. But, if you made them go public, they could still flip. It is these things that make the coaches jobs really hard in having to read a kid.

It is also now where I am of the opinion, I do not care if we cut a kid late in the process any longer. Do what you have to do to get the best class and forget about hurt feelings or you will be the only one getting hurt. Keep recruiting all positions at all time and make room whenever necessary.

Man ive known the Brown family for 10 years, noone knew where he was going. The only info i got was that he was an Auburn fan growing up.

“it was awesome,” said norton, who’s ranked the no. 128 overall prospect and no. 11 strongside defensive end in the 2019 class and the no. 3 junior from tennessee in the industry-generated 247sports composite. “i hadn’t met any of the new coaching staff, really, and i hadn’t gotten a real look of the whole facilities and stuff. “overall, it was a really good visit. My mom loved it. My dad loved it.”

“i think georgia and tennessee are probably my top two,” he said. “i mean, they both kind of have everything i’m looking for. They both have the same coaching. Also, they have the same place where they want me on the d-line — the ideal spot where i want to play at, which would be a five-technique and occasionally going down to a three-technique, but not often.”

“it’s going to be a good opportunity when my class gets there, because they’re going to be losing a lot,” norton said. “it’ll be a good chance for me to get playing time, if i were to go there. That’s something that’s kind of intrigued me a little bit — getting a good amount of playing time — so that’s kind of drawn me in a little more.”

“he stressed to me (saturday) that, stuff that happened in the past, he had nothing to do with,” norton said of pruitt. “he said, in 2007 or something like that, when he went (to alabama) with nick saban, they started 7-6 and then that year a group of guys decided they were going to form something special there. He said the next season they went, like, 12-(2) and 14-(0), and then he said the rest is history. “i think that’s what he’s trying to do there. He’s trying to build a dynasty at tennessee, and i believe that he can do that — that he’s going to turn tennessee around.

“i think coach pruitt, him just being there, just has a standard of they’re going to follow him to what he believes, and that is winning a national championship. He’s gathered a great group of coaches and stuff to lead the team in that direction. And, in the past, it just didn’t seem that way. It just seemed kind of unorganized and just kind of dysfunctional with all the coaches.”

"It was good," Norton said. "We spent pretty much all day with them. We went and had breakfast with the coaches and then just chilled the whole day with the staff. We met with the academic people and it was a good day." "Obviously they are concerned with me going there," Norton said. "They really want me to be a part of of what they are doing over there. Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt told me today, he had nothing to do with what happened in the past because I had a pretty bad taste in my mouth the last time I visited. He just reminded me that I can be a part of something great they are changing around. I know coach Pruitt can lead a team and change it around."

Pruitt has made Norton feel like he is a top priority for the program and that's because the top Vol is helping lead his recruitment. "He's recruiting me personally," Norton said. "We talk a lot and I know all the good defenses he has coached. It's good to get to know him and start a relationship with him."

"At the beginning of the day I hung out with coach Rocker," Norton said. "I like all the success he has had just in general with when he played and I know he knows a lot about the sport. He's dedicated to coaching defensive lineman. We talked about where he wants me on the defensive line. He wants me anywhere from a 5-technique to a 9-technique and that's where I see myself."

Norton was accompanied on the trip by his parents and his girlfriend. He and his parents learned about the academic side where they get weekly progress reports from the Thornton Center. That was a big perk with Norton's studies being very important off the gridiron.

"Some college coaches you are on your own your freshman year," Norton said. "You get there and they have acclimation classes to get used to the college class style. I think that is the main thing they liked about it. They had a great time meeting the coaches, but they really enjoyed meeting the academic side. The main thing they liked is the weekly reports." And as for the girlfriend, she tagged along at the request of one important person. "Coach Pruitt wanted me to bring her," Norton said. "He said he wanted to personally recruit her too. She's a Mississippi State fan and her family is all Mississippi State, but she loved it apparently."

He plans to make a decision before his senior season starts.
